Finishing off the new dock is the only work remaining at Huddleston Pond, and barring any weather delays it should be done by Friday, Peachtree City stormwater engineer Mark Caspar told the City Council June 3.

Tyrone cuts spending at work session

Cuts to expenditures from the proposed 2008-2009 Tyrone General Fund budget at the June 10 work session totaled $270,389. Council members started the meeting with $739,475 in proposed expenditures over revenues for the budget that begins July 1. Though the revenue side of the budget was not discussed at the meeting, a line item for “Funds Carried Forward” for the 2007-2008 budget and totaling $490,626 was left blank in the projected revenue budget for 2008-2009. The council will meet again June 19.

PTC woman killed in bike accident

Berta Mikulcik, 62, of Peachtree City died Wednesday of injuries received when she flipped over her bicycle while riding down a hill Tuesday morning in the north part of the city, police said.

School board approves $175.9 million budget

The Coweta County Board of Education approved a final operational budget of $175.9 million for the 2008-09 school year at their regular board meeting on June 10.

Airport Authority seeking economic ideas

Coweta County Airport Authority is looking for ideas that will spur quality economic growth.

“There has been a great deal of discussion regarding the future of the Newnan-Coweta County Airport,” said Coweta County spokesperson Patricia Palmer. “The Airport Authority welcomes any proposals that would benefit the airport and the community in terms of economic development consistent with the community’s vision for quality growth.”

It’s good-bye Goody’s. The Newnan clothing store at Newnan Pavilion on Ga. Highway 34 is set to close as a part of a corporate restructuring measure with the June 9 filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Though the closing date has not been set, the Newnan store is one of 69 across 20 states that will cease operation.

Stokely named special assistant district attorney

This week by appointment of Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney, Peter J. Skandalakis, Superior Court Judge Jack Kirby swore in Robert Stokely, Solicitor General of Coweta County as a Special Assistant District Attorney for the Circuit.

Damaged courthouse tree to be removed

A large oak tree on the southeast corner of the historic Coweta Courthouse square will be removed this week. The tree was damaged in a May thunderstorm. The tree, a water oak, lost a very large limb in the storm.

Acute care services director named at Newnan Hospital

Piedmont Newnan Hospital has named Patricia “Pat” Johnson, RN director of acute care services. As director of acute care services, Johnson is responsible for overseeing 61 acute care beds including orthopedics, medical and surgical units.
