For the first time in at least two decades, there is no Mrs. Winner’s in Fayetteville.

It was a total loss with no injuries Sunday night as the Mrs. Winner’s restaurant on Ga. Highway 85 in Fayetteville burned to the ground. Three employees on duty were the only ones inside the building.

Employees inside the store were alerted by a drive-thru customer or a passerby who noticed smoke and flames in the rear of the building, Fayetteville Fire Public Information Bill Rieck said.

Rieck said a fire alarm call came in at 8:16 p.m. with firefighters arriving at 8:18 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find the building fully engulfed in flames, Rieck added.

Rieck said there were unconfirmed reports of sparking in the area of electric equipment at the rear of the building. The fire, Rieck said, is not considered suspicious.

Mrs. Winner’s Marketing Director Robert Jacks said at the scene the store had recently undergone exterior upgrading.

“We’re going to re-group and hopefully re-open,” Jacks said.

The store was among the first fast-food chain restaurants to locate in Fayette County back in the 1980s.
