Peachtree City’s peaceful golf cart paths were filled with “strong-armed robberies” in the past week that culminated Monday night with the arrest of five juveniles and one adult. The string of robberies began last Thursday between 5 and 6 p.m. on the cart path behind Crosstown Court near Braelinn Village Shopping Center, said police Captain Rosanna Dove. Dove said a group of teens on a golf cart attacked three other teenagers and demanded their possessions. One teenager sustained a cut and a swollen eye, and the golf cart robbers made off with $11. On Monday, two more incidents occurred, also during the late afternoon, on the path west of the Ga. Highway 74 pedestrian bridge and the path near the Mellington subdivision. During one of the Monday incidents, a teen was asked to give up his iTouch, but refused. Based upon witness statements and further investigation, officers were able to determine the attackers’ identities. Arrested in the attacks were five juveniles, ages 14 to 16, from Peachtree City, Fayetteville, Newnan and Alexandria, Ala. Each was charged with three counts of robbery. Justin Franks, 17, of Rayner Drive, Newnan, was arrested on two counts of robbery and was transported to the Fayette County Jail to await his appearance in Fayette County Magistrate Court. The juveniles were transported to the Clayton County Youth Detention Center where they are scheduled to appear before a Fayette County Juvenile Court judge today [Wednesday]. login to post comments |
