5 arrested after cart path attacks

Peachtree City’s peaceful golf cart paths were filled with “strong-armed robberies” in the past week that culminated Monday night with the arrest of five juveniles and one adult.

The string of robberies began last Thursday between 5 and 6 p.m. on the cart path behind Crosstown Court near Braelinn Village Shopping Center, said police Captain Rosanna Dove.

Dove said a group of teens on a golf cart attacked three other teenagers and demanded their possessions. One teenager sustained a cut and a swollen eye, and the golf cart robbers made off with $11.

On Monday, two more incidents occurred, also during the late afternoon, on the path west of the Ga. Highway 74 pedestrian bridge and the path near the Mellington subdivision. During one of the Monday incidents, a teen was asked to give up his iTouch, but refused.

Based upon witness statements and further investigation, officers were able to determine the attackers’ identities.

Arrested in the attacks were five juveniles, ages 14 to 16, from Peachtree City, Fayetteville, Newnan and Alexandria, Ala. Each was charged with three counts of robbery.

Justin Franks, 17, of Rayner Drive, Newnan, was arrested on two counts of robbery and was transported to the Fayette County Jail to await his appearance in Fayette County Magistrate Court.

The juveniles were transported to the Clayton County Youth Detention Center where they are scheduled to appear before a Fayette County Juvenile Court judge today [Wednesday].

I was the driver of the golf cart of the first group of kids to be attacked. My brother, a good friend of mine and myself were driving to meet up with three other dudes we'd been chilling with at my house who left via car at the skatepark. Passing on the golf cart path behind Harmony Village our assailants recklessly cut us off on the golf cart path coming out of Harmony. It was at this point my friend revealed to me that the kids on the golf cart (two of which I vaguely knew from middle school) had robbed him for money and marijuana earlier that week. They saw him again and were probably eager to hit another lick.

So they start yelling at us and being thug. I just ignore it. Then they stop the golf cart in front of us behind Arnie's. I stop too because I'm dumb. They all start to get off and walk over to us, demanding that we "empty our pockets". I thought about it for less than a second and said "F*ck no" and put the golf cart in reverse and drove back for a good 15 yards or so.

They began to pursue on foot. I then put the golf cart in forward and drove right into the storm. One kid tried to run alongside me and he punched me in head twice but he wasn't as tough as he thought because it didn't hurt at all or interfere with my driving which is saying a lot because at the time I was 6'1 weighing 119 lbs. Another kid ran alongside shotgun where my brother was sitting. I don't know how many times he got punched but he got bruised under his right eye. My friend, a big polish dude, was on the back. Two of the assailants attempt to jump on, but seeing as he was much bigger than both of them he kicked them off with ease.

So we drove past them and decided the safest bet was to get to Kroger's parking lot. And of course instead of calling the police we called our friends "to get some back up". My brother ended up telling my parents that night and the police were called. But yeah. They didn't make off with $11. Thought I'd make a correction on that.

These kids are basically trash though. None of them are smart, they all buy into the whole thug culture garbage, and on top of that none of them are at all big enough to be threatening unless they're in a group of six. In fact several of these kids were involved in a fight over behind Clover Reach that happened back in either August of September of 2006. In addition to that one of them threatened one of my friends with a kitchen knife in home ec back in seventh grade. You should have no regard for them.

you are so ignorant and *** stupid i swear to god. actually if you dont know their names, you cant honestly say you or your brother grew up with them. AHAHAH ****. actually with you, they may not have gotten away with more than 11$ but all together they made out with over four hund. im extremely good friends with them, dexter coleman, quinton outz, and dalton wilson. the other kids however, i dont care about. but watch what the *** you say on the internet because someone who is close to them and ISNT in jail, is still around reading *** you post. they dont buy into the thug/gangster ***, they are some wonderful people, who were being teenage boys, who are more of country boys then 'thuggish' you dont know them, you are a piece of *** *** if you are going to pull some lies out of your *** like this. and trash? ahahha real cool buddy. TEENAGE BOYS DO *** LIKE THIS. its what boys do.

AND FOR ALL YOU ADULTS reading this and acting like they murdered someone, ahah you folks are insane. why dont you worry about what your 15/16 year old son is doing, cause i can promise you he isnt just going to school and coming home. he isnt getting into trouble, he is smoking weed, he is having sex, he is fighting, ITS WHAT KIDS DO ! and for all you hypocrites, *** you all. just wait, if your kid hasnt already gotten in trouble with the law, he will soon. and i hope people are sitting in the court room, saying how much of trash he is and how he needs to be put away. one day you will feel the pain and heartache there familys had to go through because of you ***,, and you have to open your mouths and slander some teenagers.

these boys were treated wrong, as if they killed someone. and LOOK at the dumb kid "Whiskers165", who is claiming he was one of the victims, he makes it seem as if it wasnt even bad, he didnt even get hurt. yet, the court and the parents make it out as if these young boys killed someone.

these boys got 18 months. and the youngest one, who is now turning 15, got 12 months and just got out in july.

and for "Whiskers165", you say they follow the thuggish way, no they didnt. but now they might as well considering they got locked up and are in jails with ACTUALLY criminals and killers.

maybe you were too much of a *** to handle your own*** battles, but hey, i cant make you be a man !

A little motherly advice....you can usually argue your point more effectively with a better command of the English language. You want to be tough? Go to school, master language, and learn the art of debate. Armed with poise and education, you can be a 'tough' force in society!

I LOLed at your comment. You sound just about as smart as your trashy friends. You make it sound like robbery and assualt "are just things kids do". They are violent crimes. Unless you're like 10, age isn't much of an excuse. These kids were headed nowhere in life to begin with, I don't think 18 months locked up really will matter in the long run with any of them. But yeah, basically to sum it up multiple counts of robbery and assault are serious crimes and should be treated as such. If they all had been 18 they'd be serving some serious prison time right now. Just because you're a teenage idiot (and I can tell you are from your post and if you can't see why you truly are what I'm accusing you of being) and you think what they did is ok doesn't mean it is.

Also you call me a pussy because I can't fight my own battles. Why should I have to fight them when I can just have the PTCPD do it for me. This is a civilized country. I shouldn't have to fight someone because they want to rob me.

All in all, I get the feeling you're just about as worthless as your incarcerated friends

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a fight like the next guy, but isn't it foolish to say "Hey. Come get me. I've got a gun. I'm a cowboy. I'm Dirty Harry." I'm not sure what place such "bravado" has. Kind of a "bring 'em on" kind of comment. Hope your family isn't with you when thugs take you up on your offer.

I am on the golf cart paths almost every day--often with my granddaughters.

I will take my chances with a few threatening teenagers (a rare experience which I have not known) instead of having pistol-packing Clint Eastwood wannabees like you riding along on a golf cart with a chip on your shoulder and a pistol in your pocket.

Leave the law enforcement to the police. They did arrest the bad guys.

The PTC golf cart paths are not the wild, wild west.

Grow up.

I would like to hear/read about a law abiding carry permit toting citizen pulling their weapon on innocent people...that said, I've never taken my pistol on the paths.

It will be interesting to read about all the crazies in the Wild Wild West.

It just doesn't always get press. There have been numerous muggings and sexual assaults. One was foiled by a PTC Bike Cop who persuaded the perp to kiss the asphalt of Crosstown Drive with a service revolver in his ear. If this happened more often, and if we had a strident DA and judges, these youngs punks would be deathly afraid of coming near there. Gone are the days that the punks fear Fayette County.

The Senior Village behind the liquor store at Crosstown Court ought to be raising hell.

Look for Lager Logsdon to ignore it.

The Cart Paths have been around for decades. I realize they aren't perfect, but in my travels, which are often, I rarely see the least bit of trouble.

All that said, more patrols won't hurt a thing.

Before someone says "oh it's summer and our teens are so bored...we need more activities for them...." Give me a break and put these criminals in Jail!! If their parents have to appear in court on charges, too...all the better. Good work PTC-PD!! Keep the paths safe!

Thanks for nothing to the worthless careless parents, (oooppppps,I mean careless breeders). Using the term parents would imply that they are actually responsible good people. One pill a day people, either that or abortion... it isn't illegal.... yet. Maybe they will give you a package of wake the heck up too while they are at it.

Can we throw the parents in with them and weld the doors shut?? Do we have to pay to feed them??

but I wonder why those targeted were only other teens. It would seem that if they had deliberately "staked out" these two places, their obvious targets would not be other teens. On the other hand, trying to rob some old "fart" would be a bit more demanding in that the fear factor would probably be gone.

Taken to an extreme, should young moms with their kids have been the target, well, perhaps one could have the police call the coroner.

Just my two cents worth.

Just remember, if you’re one of the growing number of citizens that have a CCW:

§ 16-3-21. Use of force in defense of self or others; evidence of belief that force was necessary in murder or manslaughter prosecution

(a) A person is justified in threatening or using force against another when and to the extent that he or she reasonably believes that such threat or force is necessary to defend himself or herself or a third person against such other's imminent use of unlawful force; however, except as provided in Code Section 16-3-23, a person is justified in using force which is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm only if he or she reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent death or great bodily injury to himself or herself or a third person or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony.

Armed robbery is considered a ‘forcible felony’ in the state of Georgia.

So, there are only two thing you have to remember:

1. For the parents of stupid teenagers, consider yourself warned.
2. The dead can't testify.

Thanks for the reminder on GA state law. Many people I know have a carry permit and for good reason. Our lives are worth more than a criminals.

Here is what many people do not realize guns and knives aren't the only leathal weapons out there.

I tire iron is a leathal weapon in the wrong hands.

Golf carts and or cars are leathal weapons in the wrong hands

A basball bat is a leathal weapon in the wrong hands

A bottle bomb or a can of gas can be a leathal weapon in the wrong hands

Last summer my neighbors saw 8 boys standing like big goons on the side of the cart path with big rocks in there hands. They didn't think it looked right so they called the cops. The boys had been waiting out there for their intended target so long that one of the golf carts battery was dead.

So add big rocks to the list of leathal weapons in the wrong hands.

Any of these weapons should be treated as a clear threat.

Here is another one: BB guns and pellet guns that look like real weapons. If I see one aimed at me I absolutely positively will NOT ask if the gun is real or not......I will react as though it is a true threat. Toy guns and real guns are not toys.

The parents in PTC need to wake up, your kids lives depend on it.

Why is it that we have more problems here with kids out of control than the north end of Fayetteville which is right next to River-crimedale?? Why are the parents in PTC so freaken lame?

Give them what they want and call the police!

2. The dead can't testify.

Nor can they plea out of the crime and better yet, they will never become repeat offenders. Being the victim of a violent crime changed my attitudes regarding law abiding citizens carrying firearms. I do not and probably never will as I am not capable of safely handling a gun. I would appreciate very much if trained men and women legally carried on the cart paths and around town. This way the criminals will feel real uneasy when approaching a potential victim. They will have to ask themselves; "Do I feel lucky today". I hope Mr. Bad PTC carries a gun and I hope he frequents the same shopping and dining areas that I do.
