Berta Mikulcik, 62, of Peachtree City died Wednesday of injuries received when she flipped over her bicycle while riding down a hill Tuesday morning in the north part of the city, police said.

She was “riding her bicycle on a downhill grade of [the 800 block of] Southern Shore Drive when she suddenly fell over the bicycle’s handlebars, landing in the roadway. At the time of the accident, the victim was not wearing a bicycle helmet,” a report from the Peachtree City Police Department said.

“When the police officers arrived on the accident scene, Ms. Mikulcik was conscious and able to provide pertinent information concerning her identification and telephone number,” police said. “At approximately 9:32 a.m., Peachtree City medics arrived on the scene and treated the victim. Due to visible injuries to the victim’s face, head and shoulder areas, Ms. Mikulcik was transported by the Rescue Air helicopter to the Atlanta Medical Center.”

Police were notified the next day that Ms. Mikulcik had died as a result of her injuries.

“A comprehensive accident investigation is being conducted by investigators from the Police Department’s Community Response Team,” police said.

Berta was a wonderful lady. Swiss, classy, and full of life! Having known her for nearly 20 years and worked with her at Delta for about 15 of those 20 years was such a wonderful experience. She and Ed were so in love (and have been since!) when they got married so, it is just heartbreaking to hear such devastating news. My family offers it's condolences to Ed and his family during this tragic time.

Everyone, please ensure that all family members wear a helmet while riding.
