Wrong address. Wrong delivery. For the homeowner of a Raintree Hill address in Peachtree City, the June 6 package he had not ordered and was not home to refuse led to the arrest of a Tennessee man minutes later after he entered the property and picked up the package containing 39 pounds of marijuana.

Edy Maldonado, 42, was arrested on Robinson Road shortly after picking up the package at the residence of construction company owner Mike Kruse. No one was home at the time of the delivery.

As for Kruse, he was more bewildered than anything.

“I do not know which was more shocking, reading my name in the paper as the location of a drug bust or hearing from my neighbors that the SWAT team came to my house while I was at work,” he said.

An attempt to deliver the package also occurred the previous day. Kruse was away from his home, but was contacted by a supervisor at Kruse’s home working on payroll. The supervisor called Kruse, telling him that a delivery driver was attempting to leave a package. Kruse told him to refuse the delivery.

“I thought it was a scam delivery, like one of those telemarketing deals where they send you something then bill you for it,” Kruse said Tuesday.

Though the man waiting for the drug delivery June 6 was arrested after trespassing on Kruse’s property, the Peachtree City man still has questions.

“How can the average citizen prevent this from happening to them?” Kruse asked. “All I know is that you should be aware that someone can use your address as a drop-off point for their packages. They can instruct the shipping company to leave it on your porch.”
