All four Republican candidates for sheriff, four [UPDATED] Republican candidates for board of education and the incumbent Republican district attorney have refused to participate in The Citizen’s Online Political Forum.

5 school board candidates boycott Citizen questions

2 other school board candidates answer questions for online political forum

Five candidates for the Fayette County Board of Education said they disliked questions posed by The Citizen for its Online Political Forum and refused to answer.

Post 3 incumbent Marion Key and Post 2 challenger Mary Kay Bacallao responded with answers to the nine questions posed by this newspaper. The questions follow this article.

Post 2 School Board Chairman Terri Smith, Post 1 incumbent Janet Smola and three challengers — Mark Aasen, Dave Houston and Carol Jensen-Linton — refused to answer the newspaper’s questions unless the questions were redrafted “in a positive manner.”

They said, “... we believe these questions are negative in nature.”

Candidates in all other major local races are participating in the online forum

The four candidates for Fayette County sheriff Monday refused to participate in The Citizen’s Online Political Forum.

The candidates — Barry Babb, Wayne Hannah, Thomas Mindar and David Simmons — jointly signed a typed letter, and all four delivered it to the offices of The Citizen Monday morning.

As of noon Monday, candidates for Fayette County Commission, Fayette County Board of Education, Fayette tax commissioner, Fayette probate judge, district attorney and legislative offices have responded to The Citizen’s invitation to answer questions.

Peachtree City Christian Church presents B.I.G. 4th of July Weekend celebration

Fire bond vote is possible

Chamber wants community input on conference center

The Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the city of Newnan Convention Center Authority, is encouraging citizens to weigh in on the need and feasibility of constructing a new conference center in the city. All citizens of Newnan and Coweta County are urged to fill out a conference center survey online at www.newnancowetachamber.org before the deadline of July 7. Paper surveys are also available at the Chamber headquarters at 23 Bullsboro Drive in Newnan.
