A Fayetteville man fleeing a deputy in a stolen vehicle didn’t get very far Tuesday afternoon when he crashed into a school bus on Ga. Highway 92 south near HiLo Road, police said.

Council passes rezoning request

The Fayetteville City Council passed a rezoning request at its monthly meeting last Thursday.

It came from Brent Scarbrough to rezone 18.98 acres located at Ga. Highway 314 and White Road. It was changed from C-3, Highway Commercial, to DR-15, One and Two Family Residential homes. The development will be the site of the 60-home Grove Park subdivision, slated for marketing to home buyers 55 years and older.

BOE declares nearly 100 ac. surplus south of Fayetteville

The Fayette County School System voted Monday night to surplus nearly 100 acres of property it recently purchased.

School spokesperson Melinda Berry-Dreisbach confirmed the system closed on 129 acres last week at Inman Road and Ga. Highway 92, south of Fayetteville. The system paid $2.9 million, or $22,500 an acre.

Deputies collar 4 kids for burglaries

Thanks to an alert citizen, Fayette County deputies were able to arrest a 17-year-old and three juveniles on several burglary charges early Sunday afternoon on the north end of the county, police said.

Open house set on Hwy. 74 widening

Peachtree City police are looking for a Marietta man whose fingerprints link him to the scene of a daytime burglary in the Planterra Ridge subdivision in early December.

Palmetto council members Jan. 16 gave their approval to an intergovernmental agreement supporting a March vote in Coweta County on a proposed 2007 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).

Though experiencing continued record growth at nearly 10 percent during 2005, incidents of crime rose only slightly. Calculated at a 3.88 percent increase, serious crimes are actually on the decline from recent years.
