Bands get high marks

The J.C. Booth Middle School band program had very good results at the first-round auditions for Middle School All-State band this year. The students auditioned on a statewide basis and were judged on merit against all other applicants from across the state. The students who passed their first-round auditions are Diana Massengale, Katie Atkinson, Brandon Smith, Tim Thornburg, Rebekah Anders, Zenia Zheng, Sarah Manley, Matthew Niebes, David Wonderley and Lloyd Anders.

Thousands of students set to move next fall

When all is said and done, more than 2,500 students will be changing schools next fall.

The Coweta County Board of Education unanimously approved new boundary maps Tuesday for nearly all the county’s elementary and middle school students. But the board did decide a week to set boundaries for Ruth Hill, Western, Thomas Crossroads and Willis Road elementary schools after hearing more information from parents in the school districts.

Currently, the city manager and a city council member hold positions on the five-member board. But Councilwoman Judi-ann Rutherford said she’d prefer the association not have such direct political ties.
