Library site down to two

Senoia’s new library will either be downtown or in the city’s park.

That was the verdict rendered Monday night during the City Council meeting as city administrator Richard Ferry outlined the city’s options.

Ferry said he had met with an architect to determine the best locations for the building. Ferry took him to four sites around the city, but two were determined not suitable for the library.

Sites at the city’s baseball fields, along with a volunteered site at Couch Street and Rockaway Road were deemed unsuitable by architect Kip Oldham.

The two sites that were picked as suitable still pose some challenges. If the library was placed in the vacant lot, Ferry said the building would be limited to about 4,000 sq.ft.

“A two-story structure at that site would require an elevator, which is too costly,” Ferry said.

The site at the city’s park on Seavy Street would require movement of the playground equipment for larger children. Initially, city officials had thought the best location in the park would be where a Boy Scout building is located, but the architect disagreed.

Mayor Robert Belisle said it was critical the city made a decision soon, and the City Council agreed to take public comment until Feb. 6 on the two proposed sites.

The city is receiving $500,000 from Coweta County to help build the facility, and the county is urging the city to make a final site location.

I like the following statement:

Personally, I think we shouldn't be so discriminatory. Fat kids have to play on the playground, too, ya know.

Good luck, Senoia. Hope you never have to deal with the fun and excitement the Peachtree City library has to, stuck between a rock (Flint River Regional Library) and a dumbars (Fayette County). Just when things started to look good, Fayetteville decided they wanted to rule the world.

Ah well....the only books I read are the ones with pictures anyway Smiling
