Youth council to address teen issuesThe Youth Council Serving Fayette County will have an open discussion Tuesday evening about issues facing teens, particularly in light of the two suicides reported in the past two weeks. PTC teen commits suicideFor the second week in a row, McIntosh High School is in mourning after losing another student to suicide. Ashleigh Webster, 17, was found dead in her home late Friday evening, said her father, Bill Webster. A senior at McIntosh, she got good grades and her modeling career was just starting to take off, Mr. Webster said. Council approves new sewer contractsAfter more than two years of negotiations, the town of Tyrone Thursday night approved a new sewer contract with Fairburn that officials are hailing as a much fairer contract. Leaders debate future of downtownWhat should Tyrone's downtown look like in the next five to 10 years? That was one of the topics the town's leaders discussed during last weekend's retreat in Peachtree City. For years, Tyrone officials have discussed trying to create more of a downtown atmosphere along the town's older business corridor on Senoia Road. PTC trash hauler staying, but bill to spikePeachtree City residents using Allied for trash pickup can expect some springtime sticker shock. The company has issued notice that it is canceling the “preferred provider” contract with the city, which limits the rate increases the company can impose on residents. The contact will expire March 31, but the company will continue to provide trash pickup services in the city, contrary to a news report published elsewhere Friday morning. PTC delays roundabout decisionThe Peachtree City Council took a detour on its roundabout discussion Thursday night. Instead, the group focused on golf cart safety as it currently exists at the intersection of Peachtree Parkway and Walt Banks Road ... and as contemplated in the roundabout design. DAPC-bank lawsuit creeping alongThe lawsuit over $1.5 million in unpaid loans owed by the Development Authority of Peachtree City is still mired in the discovery phase. Hwy. 54 bridge work nearly completeWork is progressing on the widening of Ga. Highway 54 to four lanes. Much of the work now has to do with the bridges over Line Creek and the CSX railroad track. The first half of the new bridge over the railroad track is already being used, and construction is well underway on the other half of the bridge, with 90 percent of the bridge deck complete, according to the state Department of Transportation.
