Picnic Park is next target for facilities

The McIntosh Trail recreation complex in Peachtree City will soon have public restrooms near the city’s BMX track and dog park.

The restroom facility will also have a built-in concession stand that will be primarily used for BMX events, said Recreation Administrator Sherry McHugh. The restroom will be locked up in the evenings for security reasons because the parks will be closed then anyway, she added.

Although the restrooms will be available during events like the Shakerag arts and crafts festival, there will still be a need for port-a-potties to be rented for such large events, McHugh said.

The restroom construction should be complete by the end of this month. Also included in the project is a water spigot so a line can be run to the nearby dog park, particularly so dogs can cool off in the hot months ahead, McHugh said. Currently, dog owners have to come inside the city’s recreation administration building to get water for their pets.

Funding for the project came from the $150,000 annual payment from the Fayette County Commission for recreation needs. Rec officials plan for the next restroom facilities to be added at the popular Picnic Park area behind City Hall, which features the All Children’s Playground and nice views of Lake Peachtree.

The Picnic Park restrooms won’t have a concession stand, but they will have extra storage for bathroom supplies and the like, McHugh said.
