The Fayette County School System voted Monday night to surplus nearly 100 acres of property it recently purchased.

School spokesperson Melinda Berry-Dreisbach confirmed the system closed on 129 acres last week at Inman Road and Ga. Highway 92, south of Fayetteville. The system paid $2.9 million, or $22,500 an acre.

The system plans to use the property for a new elementary school, but only needs about 30 acres for the school site.

“The only way we could purchase the land was as one parcel,” she said.

The board will now seek a possible buyer for the property.
