Music fills the air at SerenbeMon, 01/23/2006 - 10:00am

The extraordinary setting called Serenbe yielded a special mixture of community and music Jan. 15 with an Afternoon of Bluegrass, the first of a series of musical and storytelling performances sponsored by the Serenbe Arts and Cultural Council.
The Blue Eyed Daisy Bake Shop was the setting for the performance, where more than 100 Serenbe residents and neighbors from surrounding communities filled the shop and the front sidewalk to hear the music of Johnny and Jeff Mosier and David Blackmon. Well-known in Atlanta music circles, Johnny and Jeff formed the Blue Ground Undergrass in 1998 and are still going strong, having recently released the band’s fourth CD. Brothers Jeff and Johnny performed for more than 10 years at the Freight Room in Decatur and hosted “Boom in a Bam” on WRFG radio. Like Jeff and Johnny, David, too, has made his musical mark on Atlanta, having performed with bands such as Wide Spread Panic. The Blue Eyed Daisy provided the perfect setting for the event, with owners Johnny and Angie Mosier having prepared the scrumptious pastries and other delights that were gobbled down by the audience as Johnny took to the guitar, Jeff to the banjo and David to the fiddle. The trio were joined later in the show by Angie, adding her talent on vocals. Throughout the performance, the upbeat ambience of the music mirrored the setting of the lovely Blue Eyed Daisy, the camaraderie of friends and the taste of fresh baked pastries that have no equal. The performance Sunday afternoon was the first of a monthly series of concerts and storytelling by area residents that will be held on the third Sunday each month at 4 p.m., said Serenbe Communications Director Jacqueline Navarro. “This event was our first of many opportunities to bring musical performances by a variety of artists and storytelling by Palmetto area residents about the history of this part of the county,” Navarro said. “I’m really excited about it.” Serenbe is located east of Palmetto off Hutcheson Ferry Road.
