The votes have long been counted and re-elected and newly elected city officials in Palmetto, Union City and Fairburn have been sworn in and are busy conducting the business of their respective cities.

A check of campaign contributions received by the candidates and recorded with the Georgia Elections Commission showed that most candidates ran rather thrifty campaigns in terms of campaign contributions collected in amounts exceeding $101. Only a few benefitted from contributions exceeding the reportable threshold amount. Some of those reportable contributions were made by candidates themselves.

In their filings, both Union City mayoral candidates and three city council candidates documented contributions over the reportable $101 threshold. Mayoral candidate Randolph Scott reported two contributions from private individuals totaling $1,125.

Winning re-election by a sizable margin, Mayor Ralph Moore reported contributions exceeding $101 at $11,650. Contributing to Moore’s re-election campaign was an impressive list of area attorneys, developers and others. According to his campaign disclosure reports Moore received $1,000 from Union City attorney Dennis Davenport and $1,000 from Bill McNally, also a partner with McNally, Fox & Davenport. Other lawyers making contributions included $1,000 from Atlanta attorney William Galloway of Dillard & Galloway, LLC, Atlanta attorney Steve Labovitz of McKenna, Long & Aldridge, LLP who contributed $250 and George Lawson of Lawson’s Attorney Law at $250. Others listed by Moore as contributing more than $101 included Shannon Mall owner Lee Najjar at $2,000, Affordable Housing Partnership developer Noel Khallil at $500, Brown Design President Tarlee Brown at $500, Winter Companies Executive Vice President Gary Ellis at $750, KRR Construction Company President Joseph Kemp, Ivan Allen Company President Ivan Allen at $1,000, Hosea Bonding Company President Yolanda Favors at $250, College Park developer Melvin Collins at $250, Buffalo Cafe Manager Darryl Campbell at $250 and Foley Design Association, Inc. at $250. A total of five private individuals contributed $1,850 of the total reported contributions.

Union City council candidate Charles Potts accounted for $330 in contributions from single private individual while newly elected council member Angelette Mealing received a total of $1,998 for her campaign. Of that amount, $1,798 was received from three private individuals and the remaining $200 came from Caram & Associates co-owner and Union City Mayor Ralph Moore. City council candidate Annette Davis reported receiving a total of $989 from four private individuals. The remaining six city council candidates reported no contributions exceeding $101.

In Fairburn, only city council candidates Scott Vaughan and Mario Avery reported contributions exceeding $101. Vaughan reported a total of $450 from two private individuals and Avery received $650 from four individuals along with $200 from U.S. Rep. David Scott and $250 from state Sen. Kasim Reed. None of the remaining two candidates reported receiving contributions exceeding the $101 reportable threshold.

And in Palmetto, only one of the six candidates for city council reported contributions of $101 or more. Newly elected council member John Miller reported one contribution of $296.
