McIntosh class reunion set for AugustPlanning for the McIntosh class of 1997 ten year reunion is underway. Alumni of the class of ‘97 and parents of '97 al Notables 0718• Fincher graduates from Dalton State Jaimee Lyn Fincher, of Peachtree City, was among the 538 students to graduate from Dalton State College on May 4. Fincher earned an Associate of Arts degree. Tabor, McCrumb to headline PTC Literary FestivalDr. James Tabor will be returning to Peachtree City for the first ever Peachtree City Literary Festival, to be held July 27-29. Notables 0711• Burdg graduates from UGA Jinee Burdg graduated this spring from the University of Georgia. She will be going to the University of Maryland for an intership to become a registered dietician. Burdg is a graduate of Starr’s Mill High School and has been a resident of Peachtree City for nearly 15 years. She is the daughter of Tom and Kathy Burdg. Huie Bray celebrates 60 years of business in Fayette CountyThe year was 1947, the United Nations partitioned Palestine into two sections, Britain's Princess Elizabeth married Duke Philip Mountbatten, and the Everglades National Park was established in Florida. In Fayetteville, Ga., native son Huie L. Bray began a construction and real estate business he's still active in, 60 years later. Local Civil Air Patrol squadron seeks cadetsRecently, the Peachtree City - Falcon Field Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) visited several Fayette County middle schools to make multi-media presentations to students, faculty and staff about the CAP and its Cadet Programs. The squadron is very active and is the premier squadron in Georgia. Four out of the last five years, the squadron has received the Georgia Wing Squadron of Merit award for its outstanding programs and officers. Local competes for Miss Jr. Teen titleNichelle Moore of Peachtree City was recently selected to participate in Cities of America's 2007 national competition that will take place Dec. 12-17, 2007 in Orlando, Fla. Moore learned of her acceptance into this year's competition as Cities of America, Inc. announced it via mail November 13, 2006. She was also selected based on her participation and performance in the Teen Division 1 Atlanta Preliminary Competition in August, 2006. Local teen participates in panel showOn Wednesday, June 13, Sean Phillips from Fayette County High School participated in the live broadcast of the Teen Forum Show at Georgia Southern University during the annual Georgia Boys State, a leadership conference for males who are rising seniors in their high schools and are interested in politics and government. PTC DeMolays help Cystic Fibrosis FoundationVolunteers from Peachtree City Chapter Order of DeMolay helped the Peachstate Regional Group #160 of the Early Ford V8 Club of America raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at their “Kruise for Kids” recently. Boy Scouts head westBoy Scouts from Troop 75, sponsored by the Peachtree City United Methodist Church, headed to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico in June for a rigorous 11-day, 56-mile trek in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range in the Rockies. Only Scouts who are at least 14 years old are eligible to attend Philmont. The Scouts have been training for several months under the direction of adult crew leaders Dave Pollard and Rich Shepherd. The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 18 from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the Wyndham Peachtree Hotel & Conference Center, in Peachtree City. Sixty years of powerWhen Michael Whiteside began working at Coweta-Fayette EMC in 1974, there were 12,000 meters in its service area; today there are around 70,000. Raised in Cochran, Georgia, about 40 miles southeast of Macon, he has witnessed, in a tenure highlighted by his becoming president and CEO in 1983, the sextupling of membership and the absorption of Coweta and Fayette counties into metropolitan Atlanta, a change that continues to revolutionize the landscape and diminish the erstwhile rural character. “The biggest difference in the past 20 years,” which has resulted from the transition from countryside to suburbia, is “all the underground [power lines] we've added…driven by all the subdivisions,” Whiteside noted. “Peachtree City is a good example.” Outdoor concert caps off fund-raising effortAround 100 people turned out on Sunday, June 24 at Christ’s Church at Whitewater to show their support for Brittany Enterkin’s fund-raising campaign to build a schoolhouse in a rural Cambodia. McIntosh PTSO recognizes outstanding volunteerMcIntosh High School PTSO President Cele Eifert presents the "Outstanding PTSO Volunteer" award to Mel Duhon. The annual award was based on how many hours Duhon is at the school every day operating the Outpost School store and getting all the supplies needed to make the store successful, as well as all the assistance he provides to the Spirit of McIntosh Band Boosters.
