Local teen participates in Washington youth tour

Corinn Silvestri of Fayetteville has been chosen as a winner in the Coweta-Fayette EMC Washington Youth Tour essay contest. She made her winning essay come to life by creating a conversation between Mother Nature and a man who didn’t understand green power. She carefully explained the importance of green power and how it can affect mankind in the future.

Her essay was selected from 92 essays submitted from Fayette, Coweta, and Heard counties. She traveled with 102 other high school students from Georgia to Washington, D.C. for the week-long leadership experience June 7-14.

The group learned more about U.S. history, government and careers in public service, plus visit many of the national monuments and museums.

Silvestri is the daughter of Joy Silvestri of Fayetteville and David Silvestri of Florida. She is a rising senior at Fayette County High School where she is a member of the marching band.

This year’s contest had the largest number of entries ever submitted.
