PTC to wait on online forum

The Peachtree City Council has postponed the idea of opening up a citizens forum on its website.

New Councilman Don Haddix, who proposed the idea, said last week that in the interim he will use his campaign website, www.donhaddix.com, to present information and observations to the public. Haddix will not host an online forum, however, as he wants to give his fellow council members a chance to see if they support having one hosted by the city.

The Peachtree City Council is considering a possible relaxing of its setback rules for homes that back up to city-owned greenbelts.

PTC to renovate south fire station

Peachtree City will be renovating and expanding its southernmost fire station.

Last week the City Council approved a $224,000 contract to renovate and expand Fire Station 83 in Braelinn Village. The facility, which originally opened in 1989, would include new sleeping quarters for up to seven personnel with individual partitions as opposed to the beds in a single open space room. The renovation will also modify space in the kitchen/dining area and make the existing “dormitory” a dayroom for meetings, personal study time and relaxation periods, according to a memo from Fire Marshal John Dailey.

Logsdon wants veto option for transportation projects

Peachtree City Mayor Harold Logsdon is hoping to convince legislators that cities shouldn’t be forced to enact transportation improvements to benefit developments in neighboring jurisdictions, which was attempted with the now-abandoned extension of TDK Boulevard into Coweta County.

Longtime Peachtree City administrative services director Jane Miller died Monday.

Miller, 60, had long fought a bout with ovarian cancer, and she was known to take some chemotherapy treatments via IV while at her desk at City Hall.

In addition to her 24 years of service with the city, Miller was also active in the Peachtree City Kiwanis Club, having once served as its president. She also served on the board of directors of Tara Credit Union.

The renovation of Peachtree City’s police headquarters is proceeding very well and also on time, according to City Engineer David Borkowski.

So far, all of the necessary drywall has been knocked down and removed along with ceiling tiles, Borkowski said. And most of the work on the heating, ventilation and cooling system has been completed, he added.

It also allows communities to put discarded Christmas trees to good use. The program assists local governments in complying with Georgia’s yard trimmings ban implemented in September 1996.
