Peachtree City officials want to help individual landlords keep rental units safe and free of illegal activity.

A three-hour seminar on the topic is slated for Friday, Jan. 11 from 1-4 p.m.

The program will cover issues such as landlord/tenant law, screening applicants, property maintenance regulations, leases, the role of police officer, crisis resolutions and evictions. The program is aimed at property owners of one and two-family dwellings who own and manage their own properties.

The program is free but participants must pre-register; registration forms are available on the city’s web site and at the lower level of City Hall in the Developmental Services Division. The deadline to register is Thursday, Jan. 3.

The seminar will include input from the city’s code enforcement and police departments along with the Fayette County Magistrate’s Office and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

“We have such a high focus on the quality of our neighborhoods in Peachtree City that a session like this is very important,” said Peachtree City Senior Code Enforcement Officer Tami Babb. “Lack of building maintenance, destruction of property and drug activity contribute to neighborhood decay, and end up costing more for the landlord. There are accessible, legitimate techniques that can stop the spread of illegal activity and property damage at rental properties.”
