Work underway on Lake McIntosh

Preparation for construction activity is continuing for the Lake McIntosh reservoir that will be located along Line Creek between Fayette and Coweta counties.

Surveyors have finished staking out the boundary of the “full” water pool, consulting engineer David Jaegar told Fayette County’s Water Committee Wednesday morning.

The lake pool will abut some residences in the Planterra Ridge subdivision.

The county is now waiting on an approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers so timber can be cleared from the site. The county has already taken out a timber contract with a provider that’s anxious to get to work, Jaegar said.

“He’s really eager to get going,” Jaegar said. “He calls me every week for an update.”

The timber activity can’t begin until the county gets the Corps approval, Jaegar indicated. The timber contract is good until January 23, he added.

The county has also prepared a plan to recover archeological items found on the property. The plan must be approved by the state historic preservation director, Jaegar said.

The county also is hoping to secure an easement on some property just across Line Creek from the Line Creek Nature Area. The reason for the easement is the placement of monitoring equipment for the lake that is needed by the U.S. Geological Service, Jaegar said.

That monitoring equipment will be attached to a zip line that spans the creek, Jaegar said.

I hike around line creek every once in a while and noticed survey markers showing 780' elevation a couple weekends ago. Does anybody know if that will be full pool? From where those markers are it looks like it could be. Some folks in Planterra could have sweet views. I wasn't paying enough attention to notice how far up the creek it will go. Anybody know if the lake will cover that last shoal before the creek levels out into the swamp?

I have searched the web and cannot find a map, diagram etc. of where exactly lake mcintosh will be. Can anyone provide a website where this information could be found, or describe exactly where the dam will be located, will the lake back all the way to the current newnan utilities dam, visible from hwy 34/54 ?

Not great map, but gives and idea of lake boundry. If this web address doesn't work, go to PTC site and search "mcintosh". I got to it through google.

Can't believe you haven't gotten 3 "How 2's" from the 3 "old maids". It does seem complicated & 'cut & paste' does seem to work.

If you don't know the landmarks on that crummy map and I am sure someone will jump in here. The dam was going to be the TDK Ext but it was decieded that would not work & it was moved a bit North.
There is no dam at the NU pumping station, it is more like a spill way & this show the Mc Lake ending way South of that.
How much of this lake is over in ko-we-ta county (actually pronounced Cow-eta)?
