Yard sale signs again legal in PTC

It’s once again safe to put a yard sale sign alongside Peachtree City’s streets.

Yard sale signs and real estate directional signs were banned from city rights-of-way last June when the City Council adopted changes to the sign ordinance. That was fixed Thursday night when council approved new changes to the sign ordinance.

More online services for Ga. drivers

Gov. Sonny Perdue announced last week more online services available to Georgia drivers from the Georgia Department of Driver Services. Council says yes to new land

Fairburn council members Feb. 13 voted to annex and zone property on both sides of I-85. A 101.6-acre tract along I-85 between Bohannon Road and City Lake was cited for possible use as an office park with accompanying retail while a 1.2-acre tract at Ga. Highway 74 and Oakley Industrial Boulevard is currently being developed for retail.

Fairburn makes change in trash service

Fairburn council members decided Feb. 13 to split the city’s sanitation service between two providers.

CLM Sanitation will provide residential service while Advanced Waste Disposal will serve commercial customers. Cost-saving measures to customers was cited as the reason for the decisions.

Shamrock Park to get makeover

Now that the town's new library has a site, the Town of Tyrone is getting serious about cleaning up Shamrock Park.

Town Manager Barry Amos briefed the Town Council Thursday night on possible revisions to the town's master plan. Originally, the library, along with a new municipal complex was slated to be built in Shamrock Park. But Amos said residents objected to the idea and said they wanted the park to remain a park. Amos then suggested the town hire Jerry Petersen to re-work the city's plan for the area and detail what could take place in the park.

Emotions ran high Thursday night as a community leader clashed with Tyrone officials over his plan for a teen youth center.

New location for Legacy Theatre

The Legacy Theatre is moving locations before the ground was even broken on the previous location. Instead of being located on Senoia Road toward Peachtree City, the theatre will now be located on the end of Carriage Oaks Lane, close to Chaps on Ga. Highway 74. Both owner Bethany Smith and the town of Tyrone are very pleased with the new location.

Sandy Creek athletic facilities getting an upgrade

By next fall, Sandy Creek High School will be able to hold track meets on campus.

As parts of its special projects list, the Fayette County Board of Education approved $300,000 Monday night to build an eight-lane rubberized track at the high school on Jenkins Road. Directory of Facility Services Mike Satterfield told the board the school currently has a six-lane asphalt track that’s fine for practice, but don’t meet standards for staging track meets at the school.

Sandy Creek and Landmark girls survive

Both the Sandy Creek and Landmark Christian School varsity girls basketball teams won their first round state playoff games on Saturday night. The wins put them in the sweet 16 of their respective classifications.
