The Legacy Theatre is moving locations before the ground was even broken on the previous location. Instead of being located on Senoia Road toward Peachtree City, the theatre will now be located on the end of Carriage Oaks Lane, close to Chaps on Ga. Highway 74. Both owner Bethany Smith and the town of Tyrone are very pleased with the new location.
“The theatre will now be in a more prominent location and the town would obviously like to showcase it as much as possible,” said town manager Barry Amos, who added that the architectural statement of the theatre didn’t really match the exisiting building in the previous location and members of the planning commission also had concerns about traffic safety in the old location. Now, the theatre will a neighbor to a number of restaraunts, including Chaps, Wings and Things, Bamboo Star and Burrito Brothers, as well as Partners II Pizza and Chapultepec across the highway with Mama Lucia’s and Waffle house both coming to the area soon. The theatre is also located very close to the Millbrook subdivision. The nearly 16,000-square-foot performing arts center will seat approximately 180 people. Preliminary floor plans call for a 5,315-square-foot theater with a 20-foot by 50-foot stage and two performing art school studios totaling 2,150 square feet. The front side of the building will house the lobby, concessions, office and restrooms. Also contained in the rock and stucco building will be 8,257 square feet of additional leasable space. The facility will also be the new home of the Doris Russell School of Performing Arts, a business that’s been in the community for 35 years. According to Smith, the theatre will still open in August and will be ready for the inaugural performance of “Forever Plaid” in September. Another show planned for the first year is Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Song and Dance,” while one of the children’s shows that has been announced is “The Ransom of Red Chief.” There will be an informative reception about The Legacy Theatre Tuesday, March 14, at the Tyrone Depot at 847 Senoia Road. The reception will take place at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. Phone 404-895-8191 to RSVP. For more information on the theatre, visit www.thelegacytheatre.org. login to post comments |
