Shamrock Park to get makeover

Now that the town's new library has a site, the Town of Tyrone is getting serious about cleaning up Shamrock Park.

Town Manager Barry Amos briefed the Town Council Thursday night on possible revisions to the town's master plan. Originally, the library, along with a new municipal complex was slated to be built in Shamrock Park. But Amos said residents objected to the idea and said they wanted the park to remain a park. Amos then suggested the town hire Jerry Petersen to re-work the city's plan for the area and detail what could take place in the park.

"We need a master plan for the area and we don't want to waste anymore time. The park needs cleaning up," said Councilman Mike Smola.

Councilman Grace Caldwell also agreed the town needed to move forward on the park, and said the town needed to actively seek input from the community.

"We need to get with the focus group and what they want," said Councilman Paul Letourneau.

The town leaders also agreed that this year's Earth Day project would be cleaning up Shamrock Park, instead of cleaning up the highways. After further discussion, the town set May 1 as the deadline for getting public input on the park. After all the input is received, the town will hire a planner to implement a new plan for the park.

I as a taxpayer of Tyrone would like to know why it is that Barry Amos is always suggesting hiring these outside sources, i.e. engineers. I thought when he was hired, that he was also hired as the Town Engineer. Why can't Mr. Amos design a plan for Shamrock Park? Isn't that why he is being paid so much? Dual jobs? If he spent more time on doing his assigned job, maybe he wouldn't have time to do Code Enforcement.

Well, his boss, the mayor of Tyrone, lets him get away with "farming out" the work he should be doing. Who holds these two accountable??

The boy is an engineer who finished near last in his class at Georgia Tech and is way over his head in Tyrone. His only reasonable path is to hire outsiders. Tyrone Town Council can't see through this since they themselves are obsessed with the "Let's revitalize Downtown" and "Anti-growth" nonsense. They would all need to go away in a real town, but in Tyrone they will all be allowed to stay and continue mediocrity. New slogan for Tyrone "We are trying hard to be mediocre"
