Three students brought home the gold and silver at the 2006 Literacy Days Festival sponsored by the Griffin Regional Educational Service Agency.

Shane Mudrinich of Peeples Elementary placed first in Poetry Recitation at the fifth-grade level while Justan Kadkhodaian of Rising Starr Middle took second in the eighth-grade division.

Jessica Heimann, a seventh grader at Whitewater Middle, placed second in the Ready Writing category.

The Griffin RESA Literacy Days Festival is a regional competition among elementary and middle schools in the Griffin RESA region which includes the school systems of Butts, Fayette, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, Spalding and Upson counties.
