City mulls options for new park

Last year, the city of Senoia purchased 47 acres off Pylant Street for use as the city’s biggest park. A year later, city officials are now trying to deal with what to do about the breached dam on the site and how the park should be developed.

City has big annexation plans

If Union City has its way the size of the city will more than double by the end of October. If approved by landowners and registered voters, proposed annexation would encompass large areas primarily to the north, south, northeast and northwest of existing city limits.

Council gets grilled by residents

Union City council members got an earful from two determined residents of High Point Commons subdivision Tuesday, expressing concerns over what they called government inefficiency, shoddy development and increasing crime in their neighborhood. A Riverdale man is in critical condition after being shot in the face and abdomen in a late night disturbance April 16 at a Fairburn residence. Neighborhood resident Santos Watkins was charged in the shooting.

The Fayette County Board of Education is moving forward in studying the town of Tyrone’s offer to hook up to the city’s sewer system.

Tyrone Town Councilman Mike Smola wants to make sure residents won’t be paying higher property taxes this year.

During Thursday’s Town Council Meeting, Smola said he had analyzed his own property tax bill over the last several years and discovered that Tyrone’s rate kept on growing. The county and school portion of the tax bill had grown just over 1 percent a year, but Tyrone’s bite had averaged a 4.3 percent increase each year.
