Kids thrilled by Easter BunnyMon, 04/24/2006 - 8:54am

It was nothing but fun for children and families April 15 in Palmetto and Fairburn as both cities held their annual Easter Egg hunts. Kids dashed around hunting for cool little eggs with adults perhaps enjoying the atmosphere as much as the children. In Palmetto, Mayor Clark Boddie and most of the city council “hid” an indescribable number of the egg-shaped confections, just in time for a mass of youngsters to invade the grassy grounds on Park Street. Parents of the younger children quickly became the human equivalent of Dr. Doolittle’s “Push Me/Pull You,” being dragged through the grass in pursuit of the tasty morsels. Parents of the older children, along with a mass of amazed spectators, watched as the older children, those approaching the ripe old age of nine, made quick work of the hundreds of other candy eggs that dotted the park. After all was done, the remainder of the morning was spent consuming cookies, drinks and having even more fun. Click here to view all the phtos from the Palmetto Easter Egg hunt. Up the road in Fairburn, the annual Easter Egg Hunt had been delayed for a week due to inclement weather April 8. Though their numbers were smaller because of the postponement, the small group present was just as excited as their counterparts in Palmetto. Eggs notwithstanding, the morning’s activities were heightened by the presence of the Easter Bunny. That’s right, The Easter Bunny! City officials were as mystified as the others present on just how the famous bunny had managed to find its way to Duncan Park. Either way, the children were delighted with the larger-than-life celebrity. Also present was a mysterious, and quite animated clown. Mysterious indeed because she somehow managed to keep producing and blowing up an endless supply of colorful, elongated balloons, miraculously turning them into curious hats. The hats themselves were striking in design, almost as striking as the children and, especially, the frolicking Fairburn firefighters wearing them.
