Senoia water tower no threat to airport

A water tower being built in east Senoia will necessitate the changing of approach patterns at Falcon Field Airport temporarily, officials said.

Due to the presence of a large crane on top of the tower, the minimum approach altitudes will be raised 100 feet until construction ends, likely in June or July, said Airport Manager John Crosby.

The project does not pose a danger although it is within the approach pattern to Falcon Field, Crosby said.

The authority was unaware of the project until recently because Senoia officials didn’t notify the FAA of its plans. The authority sent a letter to Senoia asking the city to apply for FAA approval before going forward.

Senoia did so and the FAA later signed off on the project, officials said.

The FAA also notified Senoia that it will have to mark the tower and light it so it can be seen by approaching aircraft, Crosby said.
