At least one of the two Fayette County Board of Education posts up for election this year will have a familiar face from the past in the running.

Bob Todd was one of the first candidates to qualify this week in the county’s local election qualifying. Todd previously served on the school board in the late 1990s after retiring from the local system as director of secondary schools.

Todd qualified to run for the Post 4 school board position, currently occupied by Greg Powers. Powers was first elected to the board in 1998.

Current board member Lee Wright also qualified in the Post 5 race.

In the County Commission races, incumbent Linda Wells qualified in Post 4. Local banker and former commission candidate Sam Chapman also qualified in the race. Chapman is a mortgage banker and was the campaign manager for newly elected Commissioner Robert Horgan.

Attorney Eric Maxwell qualified in the Post 5 race, the post currently occupied by Commission Chairman Greg Dunn.

Qualifying ends noon Friday.

Wow, Sam Chapman and Eric Maxwell. Not that Wells and Dunn are perfect, but that doesn't sound like much of an improvement to me. Bob Todd on the other hand would be great! First thing he will do is get the illegal students out of our schools or figure out a way to charge them tuition. I'm for Todd.

My fine furry sarcastic hamster friend is right. Are we going to have to hold our noses and vote for the incumbents? I'm keeping my fingers crossed on Todd also. Maybe he will do the right thing and force the issue on the illegals in our school system.

Rodent, For you fine furry mind let me ask you this. With a school board budget that towers over that of the county then why do people not scrutinize the spending of the school board? Paying for illegal non-resident students is probably the tip of the iceberg.
