The new Fairburn Business Association Kick-off meeting April 17 carried a punch. More than 50 business owners made their way to the city annex building on Washington Street to begin to lay out plans designed to propel the Fairburn business community into the future.

“I’m so excited so see you here this evening,” association President Melody Koppe said to the group. “I believe we will all have an opportunity to learn something new every time we meet.”

Referencing her 18 years in business in Fairburn, Koppe remarked on the changes in the business climate in recent years and the growing number of businesses operating in the city. At last count, she said, there are 512 businesses in the city.

Contacted April 18, Koppe said she was encouraged by the attendance at the meeting. Of significance, she said, was the increase in membership that resulted. Of those attending, everyone filled out an application and approximately 90 percent of those attending joined the association.

“It was exciting to be in a room full of business owners who were also excited about what the future holds,” she said. “We have a lot of irons in the fire and we’re developing a good, solid program. It looks like the association has taken off and has no limits.”

Still in its formative stages, the association is in process of obtaining its non-profit status and continuing the development of its Web site. The association will meet monthly on the third Monday at the Fairburn Annex at 40 Washington Street. The meeting will begin at 6:30 PM
