Tax free holiday starts Friday

Governor Sonny Perdue announced that Georgia teachers will be able to use their $100 gift cards during the state’s tax free holiday. The 2006 tax-free holiday begins at 12:01 a.m., Thursday and continues until midnight August 6. It combines last year’s two tax-free shopping periods into one four-day period.

Union City continues to be busy during the summer of annexation. Planning Commission members July 24 held 32 public hearings, recommending the rezoning and annexation of more than 580 acres north of the city and 39 acres as part of an existing unincorporated island.

Commission votes to annex 1,100 acres

Palmetto’s largest rezoning and annexation move thus far in South Fulton’s summer of annexation ended Thursday with a recommendation from the city’s Planning Commission to bring nearly 1,100 acres of property into the city. Commissioners also voted to table a move to annex Willow Oak Landfill and denied at request to rezone property on Beckman Drive for condominiums.

PTC seeks to host Tour de Georgia start

Peachtree City has put together a bid package to host the start of next year’s Tour de Georgia bike race.

If the bid is approved, the city would host a number of pre-race events and an estimated 350 hotel rooms will be full for at least one night if not more, said Lauren Yawn, executive director of the Peachtree CIty Tourism Association.
