Three Coweta schools to be dedicated on July 31, August 6Thu, 07/27/2006 - 4:02pm

Following a busy summer of construction, the Coweta County School Board plans to dedicate several schools before the first day of the new school year. The new Lee Middle School will be dedicated July 31, at 6:30 p.m. Named in honor of Dr. Robert Lee – Coweta School System Superintendent from 1969 to 1989 – Lee Middle is Coweta’s 6th middle school. The July 31 dedication will take place at the cafeteria at Lee, which is located on Willis Road, beside Willis Road Elementary School. Lee parents, students and the public are invited to attend the dedication, and Principal Bob Heaberlin and his staff will open the school for visitation. The new Welch Elementary School will be dedicated August 6, at 2 p.m. Named in honor of Bobby Welch – Coweta School System Superintendent from 1989 through 1994 – Welch Elementary is Coweta’s 18th elementary school. The Sunday afternoon dedication will be held in the cafeteria at Welch, which is located on Mary Freeman Road, off of Lower Fayetteville Road in Newnan. Welch parents and the public are also invited to attend the dedication. Principal Becky Darrah is asking parents who wish to tour the school to come during elementary school orientation on August 4, from noon to 2 p.m. Immediately following Welch’s dedication on August 6, Ruth Hill Elementary School will hold a rededication ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Ruth Hill has undergone a significant refurbishment and classroom expansion that has added 10 rooms, a new cafeteria and new offices and a façade, as well as a total renovation of existing classrooms. Ruth Hill parents and the community are invited to the Sunday dedication, which will take place in the new cafeteria at the Sunset Lane school. School Principal Betty Smith and her staff will be on hand to welcome visitors following the rededication of the school. All Coweta County schools will open on Monday, August 7. Parents who need to register students new to the county can do so on August 2 through August 4. On August 4, all middle schools will be open for visitation from 10 a.m. to 12, and all elementary schools will be open for visitation from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. login to post comments |
