Media mogul makes her Southern debut

South Fulton County just keeps on evolving. The most current addition to the idyllic landscape dominated by lush rolling hills and upscale homes is the Martha Stewart-inspired Hampton Oaks community on Ga. Highway 92 at Butner Road. Open to the public beginning July 29, Stewart and builder KB Home provided a glimpse of the new community earlier in the week.

“I am excited about the opening of our Martha Stewart branded community here in the beautiful setting of Fairburn,” said KB Home Chairman and CEO Bruce Karatz. “I have no doubt these homes will appeal to a variety of home buyers with their smart designs inspired by Martha’s own homes and our KB Home quality craftsmanship.”

Karatz and Stewart said the Hampton Oaks development will feature 800 homes on 480 acres with more than one-third of that acreage dedicated to open space. The one and two-story homes will come in 17 different floor plans, ranging from 1,930 to 4,624 square feet. Homes are priced from $240,000-440,000, they said.

“This is a very, very special place. This beautiful community distinguishes us from our competition and it has a lifestyle that is better than the competition,” Karatz said. “This is a newly developing area and Hampton Oaks allows Atlanta a wide choice to homestyles, each with different looks, for large or small families, for those with modest budgets or those with more money to spend. For families in Atlanta, this is something you can’t replicate in many areas of the United States.”

For Stewart, the Atlanta area holds particular charms that make the Hampton Oaks community especially desirable.

“I was inspired by the gracious entertaining in people’s homes in Atlanta,” she said, reflecting on how the Southern lifestyle fits so well with the vision for Hampton Oaks. That vision includes aspects that would often be unrecognized or unknown to most, such as the exterior color of one of the model homes based on the color of Paul Newman’s eyes.

Stewart was not at a loss for words in describing the effort and intention that made her entree into the Atlanta market something special.

“This is an amazing value and I’m happy to be working with KB on this project. This is a beautiful tract of land, with rolling hills, water and trees,” Stewart said. “We worked hard to get this done.”

That work involved teams that centered on everything from architecture to interiors to landscaping. Stewart said many of the interior concepts were incorporated from some of her own homes.

“There are large islands and lots of counter and storage areas in the kitchen, including cabinets that go all the way up to the ceiling and baths that are spacious with lots of lighting,” she said. “We worked hard to incorporate individual features into these homes. All this makes a home a home.”

Continuing with Stewart’s descriptions, Karatz noted that Hampton Oaks homes include large amounts of pantry and closet space, large laundry and mud rooms and lofts designed to be an extra bedroom or as gathering places for activities such as watching television. Watching television after homework is done, Stewart quickly added.

“This effort doesn’t happen without a lot of people who are passionate about what they’re doing,” Karatz said. “We’re extremely proud of this effort.”

Amenities at Hampton Oaks include a community clubhouse, community garden with plots for homeowners, nature trails, four lighted tennis courts, junior Olympic swimming pool and children’s pool, a family playground, landscaping packages designed by Stewart’s personal gardener and a 100 year-old barn that has been renovated and remodeled after Stewart’s Bedford barn.

KB Home builds homes across the United States and France, delivering 37,140 homes in 2005. KB Home was ranked the No. 1 homebuilder in Fortune Magazine’s 2006 List of America’s Most Admired companies.

She lied about dumping her stock.
She got caught in that lie.
She got sentenced as a felon.
She’s a crook that as of 08/07/2006 has to pay $195,000 fine and is banned for five years from serving as a director of a public company.

What a great role model for young woman everywhere!

And you people complain about Christina Aguilera.

She did the crime
She did her time
She'll pay her fine

Now leave her alone

Or - hmmmmm---let's see. Maybe she can hire you for your consulting acumen.

I’m sure her neighborhood will look fantastic.
The features will be something like:

1. Bars on all the windows to keep homeowners in, not burglars out.
2. Striped wallpaper throughout. The strips will be running horizontally.
3. Complementary ankle bracelets as gifts to homebuyers.
4. Place settings for eight, made out of plastic.
5. Complementary overalls for working in the “yard”, with matching numbers stenciled on the back so you can remember which bunk, sorry, house you live in.

you are today. Your 50 servers must be down. Seeing you have so much time on your hands, I thought you might enjoy reading her bio:

I happen to think she is an excellent role model for any young woman that is intelligent, inovative, and hard working with a vison for success.

To quote Martha, "That's a good thing".

And to think she has her loser husband that couldn't support his family, to thank for her success.

It is your choice to admire a lire, cheat, and convicted felon.

Just don’t complain when the children of this community act the way they do.

People who are "nice" and have a lot of money are "role models" no matter what kind of crook they are! Look at all the dumbas# basketball players, etc. You know, you know, but, but. you know.

They don’t have to emulate every facet of her life.

Convicted felon? She didn’t rob a bank at gun point or blow up a building. It was a “white collar” crime (one that I have never been totally convinced she was guilty of). She paid the price and did her time. She actually mentored other inmates and improved their nutrition. I have a friend that did her time and then bought two cases of bibles for the female inmates as they didn’t have any religious reading material.

Yes, I much rather have my daughter aspire to the success of Martha than to make soft porn videos like Christine Aguilera

is anyone else familiar with the area where these houses have been built? We drive through that area often, and it is such a shame that all that lovely greenspace was destroyed. Like the old song says, pave paradise put up a parking lot ooooo la la la.

move to Fairburn instead of just raping the pristine "rolling hills" of south Fulton county by developing it for profit. Perhaps all the people flocking to Kmart to purchase her homegoods will fork out $400 G's for one of her 'signature' homes...yeah, right.

I appreciate the work that Martha does. I believe if she has anything to do with the development, it can do nothing but prosper the southside. I wish she would develop the westside of PTC.

Men in general have a real problem with Martha Stewart because she is a powerful female with impecable taste. The West side of Peachtree City needs no help, with time it will evolve downward just like the rest of Peachtree City. It is no longer a place where I would live.

I live off of Battery Way, and I can't think of a better place to live within 300 miles of here.

I say 300 Miles because that leaves out New Smyrna Beach....

Martha did a good job with subject. She is selling her name, nothing else. Just like football players sell crap, you know, you know.
