Community assistance is being sought for an initiative to provide school supplies to needy children.

Help is needed urgently as there are quite a few children whose needs haven’t been met yet with just one week before school starts.

The drive is organized by the Fayette County Department of Family and Children Services. Sharon Herbert of DFCS said there is a special need for wide-ruled and college-ruled notebook paper in addition to all other school supplies.

Giving doesn’t necessarily mean a shopping trip either. Gift cards, such as those to Wal-Mart, office supply or other similar stores, also come in handy to purchase supplies at the last minute, because staffers can get exactly what is needed.

To donate, call Herbert at 770-460-2477 or e-mail her at ssherbert@shr.state.ga.us.
