Carter’s defense of Muslim center is not believableThe letter from Jeff Carter (the son of former President Jimmy Carter) made the skin crawl on the back of my neck. I am a senior citizen and I remember the Carter presidency very well. President Carter is well remembered for giving away the Panama Canal, and for bringing the prison population from Cuba to the United States for the taxpayers to deal with. Column about soldiers’ sacrifices: President must be held accountableI agree with Mr. Garlock’s recent editorial that we are not earning our soldiers’ sacrifices, and I want him to know up front that I consider him an American hero for his service in Vietnam. Garlock errs on allegiance: A patriot must stand up to bad leadershipTerry Garlock doesn’t get it. He simply does not understand, and that is a shame. When he began his article talking about our war wounded and their sacrifice, I thought he was going to write about the VA, its funding, and our responsibility for soldiers we send off to war. Yes, soldiers sacrifice, but rest of us want tax cutsAs a fellow Vietnam War veteran I could not agree more with the portion of the Aug. 30 Opinion page article by Terry Garlock (“We are not earning our soldiers’ sacrifices”) relating to the tremendous sacrifices made by the members of all of our armed forces who have served, are serving, or will serve in Iraq. For Iraq success, listen to generals, fire RumsfeldTerry Garlock’s article: “We are not earning our soldiers’ sacrifices.” I‘m an ex-NSA intelligence analyst that had a TS/SCI clearance. I can cite several reasons why there is not a unified front to our mortal enemy as Terry noted. Old Roman wonders where public virtue wentReason and natural law are the founding principles of this country. The great American experiment was founded on the untested idea that a representative government would survive if its citizens were engaged, educated and virtuous. It is not at all certain that our unique American system of government can or will survive. It is as they say, “in the hands of the people.” TDK: This developer could teach the classDevelopment 101: I must admit that I am impressed at the new city that will be going in just across the creek from Peachtree City. The new town is, for now, called New Community. It will bring an additional 10,000 people and 6,000 cars on a daily basis through Peachtree City. TDK Extension will be a developers’ highway; citizens must rally to halt itThe proposed “mega-development” (on the Coweta County side of the soon-to-be-built TDK Extension) has made believers out of the skeptics who doubted the road’s real purpose was to enable heavy development in rural Eastern Coweta. County cart rules should be same as PTC’s rulesThanks for clearing up this issue [about golf carts on county roads]. We live on one of the roads in unincorporated Fayette, and we were not sure what rules applied. No need to fear: Muslim center will be peacefulA recent letter to the editor claimed that, “Muslims follow the direction of the imam (pastor), and he follows the direction of the head imam. He has called for a holy war (jihad), the total destruction of all Christians, Jews, and all other non-Muslims.” Take the mask off IslamThe costs we have paid and the toll in human lives and suffering has been an extremely high price to pay for intolerance, jealousy, religious fanaticism and greed. Yet still we have not learned our lessons. Racism happens here, and look who’s doing itThere was a “Free Speech” blurb last week from a mother/wife in a biracial marriage. She was disappointed in the treatment that she and her child were receiving in Peachtree City, asking for a little love. Terror profiling: Watch out for those white malesThank you, Mark Alexander, for highlighting the problems perpetrated by Middle Eastern Islamist males between the ages of 17 and 40 and simplifying how profiling will snuff out the problem (“Anyone for Terrorist Profiling?” 8/23/06, The Citizen). MHS parking ban: Bad move, poorly timedI am very disappointed in the recent City Council decision to ban all on-street parking around the Petrol Point area around McIntosh High School. PTC has legal duty to clean up old dumpAs you read in last week’s Citizen, it is quite possible that the Police Department facility could be suffering from water infiltrating the foundation from underground. The report, filed by Eagle Indoor Air, should be a wake-up call for Peachtree City. Kids need to be exposed to varying kinds of teachersI work as a tutor for Club Z. As I was leaving Peeples Elementary last week, after working with one of my kids, I walked past two women and overheard one mother making two statements. She said, ”So you don’t like your teacher. Neither do I.” County Comm. tries to fund recreation based on sizes of cities’ programsNow that the primary election is over, I’ll expand my explanation of the recreation funding that the County Commission voted to “give” to Tyrone. It is unfortunate, but true, that it is difficult or impossible to explain facts during a political campaign. Neighborhood activist advises those affected by plant’s odorant spillsCitizens of Fayette County and extreme South Fulton County, I write to you today as an extremely concerned Fayette County resident, and one who is informed. Airport security measures ineffective, mostly for showAlthough I’m not a fan of Ann Coulter, her recent column slamming the latest TSA airport security screening procedure holds water. Mayor on taxes: PTC acts for public safetyMr. Trapaga, first, thank you for having the intestinal fortitude to sign your letter to the editor regarding taxes. It is refreshing to see people actually put their name to their comments. Law enforcement, school officials should have acted earlier to help studentI am writing to express my outrage at the handling of the Robin Kittrell case. This situation was truly a tragedy, one that possibly could have been averted. Bigotry about Wynnmeade is baselessI wanted I’d drop a note to the pathetic bigot who posted the comments in the Aug. 2 Free Speech series implying Wynnmeade is Peachtree’s high crime neighborhood and and want us “knocked out of Fayette County.” U.S. must fight terror within our laws; spend what’s needed on detectionUh, oh, here we go again. Tom Ridge’s color-coded terror machine has been dusted off and we are now on Orange Alert. ‘Politically incorrect’ writer worries about mosque herePlease be advised that this letter will not be politically correct. Regarding the mosque planned at the corner of Ga. Highway 54 and Flat Creek Trail, this mosque will not be a worship center. It will be what all other mosques are: Political indoctrination centers. This is where the hatred of Christians, Jews, and other non-Muslims will be taught, refined, and reinforced. Muslims march across U.S. in support of civil liberties, against discriminationIn the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful: Thousands of Muslims nationwide join MAS freedom on Aug. 12 demonstration. In a war for our survival, why should we be concerned with what world thinks? Some historical perspective is sorely needed amidst all the huffing and puffing about the U.S., Israel, and Great Britain losing the hearts and minds of the world’s populace. Bush apologist mixes religious zealotry with delusion“Virtue is reason completely developed.” As Mr. Hoffman finds the quoting of ancient personages so clever, he ought to find Cicero downright brain-bending. Unfortunately for him, dogma is the antithesis of reason, and Mr. Hoffman, from his writings, seems little but dogmatic. Voting rights: Fayette turnout was pitiful[Recently] I attended the annual National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Convention in Washington, D.C. While we were there, an extraordinary amount of energy and effort was exerted to ensure the 1965 Voting Rights Act was reaffirmed, extended by Congress and signed by the President. PTC mis-fixing Huddleston PondThere is a very serious problem with Huddleston Pond in Peachtree City that needs to be rectified in a timely manner, otherwise all of the fish, turtles and ducks in it will die. Free Speech: Have the guts to signAfter reading the comments about Wynnmeade and the recent golf cart vandalisms, I, like many, was disgusted. After thinking about it, however, the article does show that this newspaper does not censor articles and is indeed “free speech.” However uncomfortable these ignorant and elitist articles are, free speech is essential to our society. |
