Westmoreland supports bill that will gut local land use and zoning restrictionsU.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland has gained a lot of attention for his lack of intensity on solving the nation’s problems, meddling in local affairs with the TDK Extension, and for receiving campaign funding from the TDK landowners at the same time. Westmoreland is ‘solid, real, family values’ conservativeIt is time to respond to the false and unwarranted accusations being printed in The Citizen about 8th District U.S. Congressman Lynn Westmoreland. Mayor Logsdon, PTC Council: Leadership needed on TDK Extension decisionDear [Peachtree City] Mayor Logsdon, I am sending this letter to you because it has become apparent to me we may be returning to the days where the “vent” was an open forum for incomplete stories that compelled people to “fire away” and “fire back.” Health dept. official: Flu shot story inaccurateJohn, I am disappointed in the article from about the health department and flu vaccines, especially the negative headline [The Citizen, Sept. 27, 2006]. What you wrote is inaccurate, outdated, and I did not provide you with hardly any of that information. I simply wanted you to let the public know that we would notify everyone as soon as we had enough flu vaccine available to start our flu clinics. So much for even trying. The tragedy and irony of Islamic terrorismThe terrorists have won. That is something we can say pretty soon if certain vocal segments of our populace get their wishes. Mayor deserves credit for Senior buildig as wellDear Editor, How tall is Fulton County Commissioner Bill Edwards or how deep did he stoop? A groundbreaking ceremony took place in Fairburn Sept. 19, 2006 for the long awaited new Senior Citizens building. Waiting for the program to begin, as I sat on the front row going over the agenda on the program handed to me, I thought I had overlooked the fact that the mayor of Fairburn was not on the agenda. Councilwoman Frankie Arnold, seated to my left, was also distraught after I brought it to her attention. Mrs. Betty North seated on her left said, “Why would someone leave her off. She is the mayor and has done so much for the seniors.” Mrs. Arnold and Mrs. North praised the mayor many times over when they had their time at the podium. Westmoreland earning ‘do-nothingest’ labelYour newspaper on Sept. 19 reported that our Congressman Lynn Westmoreland has declined to involve himself in the toxic chemical events related to the PSC facility in Fairburn, which has sickened hundreds of Fayette County citizens. It’s torture for us with Westmoreland in thereFirst, let me say that as a retired fighter pilot who flew combat missions over Iraq, I would be among the first to volunteer to drop bombs and shoot missiles at any group that threatens our country. We’re about to lose PTCI moved to Peachtree City about a year ago from Gwinnett County. I lived in Gwinnett for 12 years and saw what bad politics, greedy developers, and poor planning does to an area. Sen. Seabaugh responds to criticism of TDKI don’t settle scores publicly – especially in the newspaper. If I have something to say about someone, I respect them enough to say it to their face. Carter and the Muslim jihadJeff Carter, are you telling us that you respect the Muslim religion and claim they are “peaceful”? Yeah, right. I haven’t heard one of them stand up and say all the terrorist attacks are wrong. They want us dead if we don’t accept their beliefs. PTC property values to be KO’d by TDK ExtensionIf the recent revelations about TDK [Boulevard Extension] have you concerned, you are reacting as a normal human being. After all, it is not every day that you learn of an additional 35,000 cars being channeled into your town from a brand new mega development going in next door. Finally, after all these years, a good local paperWhen I was growing up in Peachtree City in the mid-1970s, there was one newspaper in our community, This Week in Peachtree City. The paper was owned and published by Jimmy Booth for whose father Booth Middle School was named. Brown: ‘Getting the best gridlock money can buy’Everyone now knows the rhetoric on the TDK Extension as a “traffic reliever” and “Braelinn Village Shopping Center savior” was nothing more than the party line of some opportunistic developers and their friends. Politicians or statesmen in PTC?Over 2,300 years ago, Plato looked over the city of Athens, the city he dearly loved, and wept at its ruin. His beloved city, once the envy of the entire world, had been defeated by Sparta in a long, bitter war. After the war, the city fell into near chaos at the hands of its leaders. Former Chamber chairman has no financial interest in controversial East Coweta projectJim Pace does not have a financial interest in the McIntosh Community project proposed for east Coweta County; as an owner of the project I can make this statement with some authority. Peaceful Islam? Now I get it . . .Show your humanity, burn a church. According to the Washington Post, the Pope recently gave a speech in which he made reference to an obscure medieval text which characterized some teachings of Islam’s founder as “evil and inhuman.” Imagine the tables were turned on MuslimsThis is a “tables-turned” exercise. Imagine if 700 years after Mohammed’s death, Christian military forces had invaded the Arabian Peninsula, captured Mecca, and forced the majority of Muslims to convert to Christianity at the point of a sword. What level of incompetence should OK dissent?Terry Garlock sees us as being led by the TV news seeking instant gratification and “Forgetting that the President told those unable to figure it out for themselves from the get-go this war would be a long and difficult struggle.” Although I was able to figure it out for myself, I don’t remember them telling us that. In fact, I remember quite the opposite. I remember Castro and Carter yearsAfter reading the letters criticizing Mr. Bush I thought about my life in this adopted country of mine since 1959, and what my opinions are about some presidents during the years to the present. Bush politicizes tragedy of 9/11It’s been five years since the 9/11 tragedy. The Bush administration preyed on fear then to push through Constitution-threatening legislation and they continue to use fear to sway voters and garner power unto themselves. Free states live only with free speechTalk. Of all the traits that display our humanity, talking represents the singular physical manifestation that divides us from the animal world. Of course to talk, we also have to think, and the effectiveness of our speech should relate ideally to the logic and breadth of our thoughts. Homeowner in S. Fulton: I live in poisoned communityI’m a homeowner in South Fulton and I live in a poisoned community. South Fulton and Fayette County residents are being poisoned by the PSC Waste Management plant and it needs to stop. One-third of Fayette homes are overtaxedIn the course of a presentation and debate before the Fayette County Board of Equalization, the county assessor, in defense of his position, read a summary of recent home sales in category and how the sales price compared to the value his office had determined for the property. Mayor Logsdon, PTC, must do more to lower our taxesMayor Logsdon, I appreciate your taking the time to respond to my concern regarding our runaway property tax situation. My intention has been to mitigate draconian tax increases through meaningful and productive dialogue. Why didn’t Prince Aga Khan denounce jihadists?Surely in his letter, His Highness Prince Aga Khan (Allah be with him) through his humble mouthpiece (oops, I mean humble servant) Ms. Saloni Vastani, renounced terrorism, jihad, anti-semitism, Christian persecution and murder, honor killings of girls who have been raped, sanctioned murder of those who choose to leave Islam and become Baptists or Methodists. Surely, he condemned all those practices. Pfeifer: Build TDK Extension, realign RockawayThis letter is another one that will probably make some of you angry. If you are one of those, I’m not attempting to antagonize you, just to explain my position. Look to the east for next TDK ExtensionDuring World War II, the British had a battle cry, “Sink the Bismarck.” Peachtree City’s new battle cry should be, “Stop the TDK Extension at any cost.” Lake Horton Park is being invaded by lots of big ratsThe following is a copy of a letter sent to the Fayette County Board of Commissioners, and the Fayette County Water Authority, Aug. 14, 2006. New Muslim center to be peaceful, not subversiveMr. Miller’s letter of Aug. 15 to The Citizen about the new Ismaili jamatkhana [house of worship] planned for Fayetteville illustrated the author’s misunderstanding about Islam in general and our tradition in particular. |
