Dear Editor,

How tall is Fulton County Commissioner Bill Edwards or how deep did he stoop? A groundbreaking ceremony took place in Fairburn Sept. 19, 2006 for the long awaited new Senior Citizens building. Waiting for the program to begin, as I sat on the front row going over the agenda on the program handed to me, I thought I had overlooked the fact that the mayor of Fairburn was not on the agenda. Councilwoman Frankie Arnold, seated to my left, was also distraught after I brought it to her attention. Mrs. Betty North seated on her left said, “Why would someone leave her off. She is the mayor and has done so much for the seniors.” Mrs. Arnold and Mrs. North praised the mayor many times over when they had their time at the podium.

I made it a priority to find out if an error had been made. After three days of a “cooling off” period I made a few phone calls. Nope! No error made. Talking with Wayne Casey (Director of Aging), he was instructed the day before by Bill Edwards to inform the mayor of Fairburn that “this was a county thing.”

Bill Edwards, we the seniors of Fairburn thank you for helping to make all this happen, but we also thank our mayor for the efforts and time put forth from the City of Fairburn. The mayor of Fairburn attended the groundbreaking. She was the tallest person there, having never in all her political years stooped to anyone.

Mr. Edwards, you owe this city an apology. In doing that you would be apologizing to the mayor. Politics (as Mr. Casey said) will always be politics, but Edwards, don’t take it out on the seniors.
