PTC mis-fixing Huddleston Pond

There is a very serious problem with Huddleston Pond in Peachtree City that needs to be rectified in a timely manner, otherwise all of the fish, turtles and ducks in it will die.

The problem occurred over six months ago when the Peachtree Public Works Department punched a hole in the drain standpipe while trying to unclog a blockage caused by 50 turtles.

The water level of the pond dropped drastically almost immediately and has left one big and totally avoidable mess. The Public Works Department has tried to make several temporary repairs, but they have all failed miserably.

I suggested a temporary repair of dropping a large concrete sewer pipe over the standpipe with the top being at the full mark for the pond. However, the Public Works Department seems to be content just to wait and go with the permanent solution detailed in the message below [from the city engineer].

“The engineers are working on the design of the spillway. Since we will have to go out to bid on this project it will probably be September/October before dirt starts moving. We plugged up the spillway the best we could with concrete (over 300 pounds worth) to slow down the flow.”

I don’t understand why they just can’t make a rather simple and inexpensive temporary repair now and save the remaining pond life before it’s too late.
