MHS parking ban: Bad move, poorly timed

I am very disappointed in the recent City Council decision to ban all on-street parking around the Petrol Point area around McIntosh High School.

I will say up front that this right now will not affect me or my child since she has a parking permit. There are no more permits available for these students who park on the street. What is the city prepared to do to accommodate these students?

Please offer a solution instead of a complete ban. Do not offer the school bus. Many students cannot ride the bus because they have after-school activities.

All the other schools in Fayette County have ample parking. McIntosh does not.

This seems to be a recurring problem at McIntosh. The students have to line up for the lottery in the middle of the summer to get a space.

I cannot believe that the city decided to do this AFTER school started, giving everyone (students and school board) no time to make other arrangements. I do not believe two weeks is ample time.

I am very very disappointed in their treatment of the high school students at McIntosh. I am also disappointed in the business owners in the area. Many of their clients are students and their parents.

Uh...hello, isn't that what PARENTS are for, picking THEIR kids up from school? No that's right, once a kid has his license he's an adult. NOT!
Parents, its time to do the RIGHT thing not the EASY thing!

then the parents will have to step up to the plate and handle the situation. The reason the parking lots are full now is kids who fully well can ride the bus, don't think it's cool enough.

I've got as 9th grader @ McIntosh, he hates the bus, but doesn't want to walk. So on the bus he goes...

Since when did it become the city's responsibility to provide parking for the COUNTY's high school students?

Parents, now is the time to teach your child that they don't get to do everything in life that they want. If they don't have a parking spot, can't get a ride, don't have a parent willing to transport them, won't walk or ride a bike... well, maybe they don't get to participate in whatever activity it is.

Whatever happened to carpooling, anyways? Or bike-riding?
