PTCUMC will offer GriefShare starting Aug. 23

Peachtree City United Methodist Church’s fall Grief Share group will begin Aug. 23 at the church, 225 Robinson Road, room 308. The 14-week class will meet every Thursday night from 6:30-8 p.m. and uses a video, workbook, and open discussion format. There is a fee of $15 which includes workbook (scholarships available).

PTCUMC to dedicate lodge this Sunday
Members of Peachtree City United Methodist Church will celebrate the opening of their new Scout Lodge at the church Sunday, Aug. 10 at 12:45 p.m. There will be a time of recognition during the 9:30 and 11 a.m. worship services and the service of consecration will begin at 12:45 at the lodge, located in the lower parking lot to the right of the worship center, 225 Robinson Rd. The Peachtree City UMC is host to three Scout troops, two Cub Scout packs and 20 Girl Scout troops.

I started thinking about changing days recently, when I read this, “... you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’ it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God ...” (Romans 8:15b-16)

Carriage Lane plans yard sale Aug. 1 & 2
Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City will have a yard sale Friday and Saturday, Aug. 1 and 2, from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Proceeds will go to Ranch on Jesus Orphanage Ministries in Uganda, Africa. Donations for the yard sale will be accepted Monday through Thursday, July 28-31, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Bring new and used items to the back of the building. Studies show that while some 84 percent of the population of the United States professes to be Christian, only about 16 percent (of the 86 percent) are in church on any given Sunday. Clearly there are many out there who are sufficiently enamored of Christianity to claim it as their faith, but who hold back from attending church for a variety of reasons. Here are five of the excuses I have been given, with my responses.

Local residents complete training for LLM status

The Rev. David Monroe, Archdeacon for the Mid-South Diocese of the Charismatic Episcopal Church, conducted training for lectors, lay readers, chalice bearers, and lay eucharistic ministers at Christ the King CEC, Sharpsburg, for people from across the diocese. Those who completed the course received recognition as Licensed Liturgical Ministers.

National Heights Baptist, July 14-18
National Heights Baptist Church invites all children, K-5 through fifth grade, to attend Vacation Bible School July 14 through 18 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The program offers fun, interactive activities revolving around the world of hot air ballooning. Each lesson will be supported with Bible stories, science activities, songs, crafts, and snacks. A pre-registration party will be held at the church Saturday, July 12, from 9 a.m. to noon, or register on-line at www.nationalheightsbaptistchurch.com. The church is on Ga. Highway 54 between Peachtree City and Fayetteville, about one-half mile East of Fayette-Piedmont Hospital.
