Members of Peachtree City United Methodist Church will celebrate the opening of the new Scout Lodge at the church Sunday, Aug. 10 at 12:45 p.m.

There will be a time of recognition during the 9:30 and 11 a.m. worship services that morning, and the service of consecration will begin at 12:45 at thelodge itself, located in the lower parking lot to the right of the worship center, 225 Robinson Rd.

Construction began with a groundbreaking in September 2005 and was completed primarily by volunteers from the scouting and church community.

Funds were raised to complete the project by participation in the air show, the UMM Chicken-Q, a program called Trailblazing for Tomorrow, a silent auction, and generous donations from the local business community.

Approximately $300,000 was raised and about $300,000 in professional labor and material donations were received; the church contributed $73,000 in funding and land, in addition to untold labor and prayer support.

PTCUMC is host to three Scout troops, two Cub Scout packs and 20 Girl Scout troops for a total of over 550 scouts and 350 volunteers.
