Kevin Wandra: Any fantasy football freaks out there?

Kevin Wandra's picture

The NFL season is about to kick-off, and that means fantasy football freaks are out in full force. There is fantasy football information all over the Internet, and if you have been to a bookstore recently, you will find numerous fantasy football guides.

Kevin Wandra: Thoughts on D.J. Shockley

Kevin Wandra's picture

Well, I'm sure there are a lot of Falcons and Georgia fans who are saddened by the news that Falcons quarterback D.J. Shockley is done for the year after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament and injuring the medial collateral ligament in his left knee Friday against the Buffalo Bills in a preseason game.

Kevin Wandra: Where will Michael Vick end up after jail?

Kevin Wandra's picture

It looks as though Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michal Vick is eventually going to jail on dog-fighting charges. The Falcons will likely release him and take a significant cap hit.

Kevin Wandra: Thoughts on the Falcons?

Kevin Wandra's picture

I found time Friday to watch the Atlanta Falcons lose to the New York Jets 31-16 in the teams' preseason opener. I know many fans couldn't care less about preseason games, but it's a great chance to get a first look at your favorite team.

Kevin Wandra: College football games

Kevin Wandra's picture

The 2007 college football season is set to start -- finally! -- and I recently thought about what game I'm most looking forward to watching. Since I'm a Jersey guy, I'll go with Rutgers at Louisville on Nov. 29. Two of the best players in the nation will be featured: Rutgers running back Ray Rice and Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm. Other games I look forward to seeing are Michigan-Ohio State, Florida State-Florida, Florida State-Miami, Georgia-Florida and Penn State-Michigan, just to name a few.

Kevin Wandra: Does anybody care about Barry Bonds?

Kevin Wandra's picture

The San Francisco Giants' Barry Bonds is on the verge of setting Major League Baseball's all-time home run record. The only reason I care about Bonds is because I own his rookie card.

Kevin Wandra: What do you think of the Braves trade for Mark Teixeira?

Kevin Wandra's picture

The Atlanta Braves made a significant trade yesterday, sending catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, shortstop Elvis Andrus, pitcher Neftali Feliz and a player to be named later to the Texas Rangers for first baseman Mark Teixeira and left-handed reliever Ron Mahay.

Kevin Wandra: How many games would the Falcons win without Michael Vick?

Kevin Wandra's picture

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell yesterday banned Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick from Falcons training camp, and there is a chance that Vick could be suspended for the entire regular season. If Vick doesn't play for the Atlanta this season, how many games will the Falcons win under rookie head coach Bobby Petrino? I say no more than four.

Kevin Wandra: What should the Falcons do with Michael Vick?

Kevin Wandra's picture

In case you were living on another planet, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was recently indicted on federal charges related to dogfighting. Vick is an immensely talented player, but the Falcons must be getting fed up with his off-field actions. What should the Falcons do? Release him (the cap hit would be exorbitant)? Attempt to trade him?

Kevin Wandra: May "The Force" be with you

Kevin Wandra's picture
Arena football isn’t real football; it was simply created to satisfy football fans’ fix during the NFL and college football offseason.

Kevin Wandra: Does anybody care about the MLB All-Star Game?

Kevin Wandra's picture

The Major League Baseball All-Star Game is being held tonight in San Francisco, but I won't be watching it. I just hope the three New York Yankees playing in the game -- Derek Jeter, A-Rod and Jorge Posada -- don't get injured.

Kevin Wandra: The greatest SEC quarterback ever is ...

Kevin Wandra's picture

Peyton Manning? Archie Manning? Fran Tarkenton? David Greene? Danny Wuerffel? Joe Namath?

As a HUGE New York Jets fan, I would love to say Namath, but I'll go with Wuerffel. Yeah, you could easily make the argument that Wuerffel was a product of Steve Spurrier's system, but you cannot take away the fact that Wuerffel set numerous passing records and won a national championship and the Heisman Trophy. None of the aforementioned quarterbacks accomplished both feats.

Kevin Wandra: Your favorite politician of all time

Kevin Wandra's picture

Everybody seems to have one politician they have always admired. My favorite politician of all time is the late governor of Pennsylvania, Robert P. Casey.

Kevin Wandra: Professional wrestling fans in Fayette County?

Kevin Wandra's picture

Back in the 1980s, I was a huge professional wrestling fan. Paul "Mr. Wonderful" Orndorff, the Road Warriors and Terry Gordy were some of my favorite wrestlers.

Kevin Wandra: Who will win the World Series this season?

Kevin Wandra's picture

The Major League Baseball All-Star Game hasn't even been played yet, but it's not too early to ask the question that is on every baseball fan's mind: Who will win the World Series this season? The Boston Red Sox? The Detroit Tigers? How about the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim?

Kevin Wandra: Best high school athlete you have seen

Kevin Wandra's picture

The best high school athlete I have ever seen in person is former Creekside quarterback/cornerback Eric Berry. Berry was a playmaker extraordinarre at Creekside. He should vie for a starting spot in Tennessee's secondary as a freshman this season.

Kevin Wandra: Giuliani wins Georgia?

Kevin Wandra's picture

It's less than a year away from the 2008 presidential election, and Hillary Clinton appears to be the Democratic front-runner.

Kevin Wandra: Your favorite baseball player of all time

Kevin Wandra's picture

I'm a lifelong New York Yankees fan, and I could never imagine my favorite player coming from any other team. In the 1980's, Rickey Henderson and Don Mattingly were two of my favorite players, but I wouldn't say either is my favorite player of all time. That honor would probably have to go to current Yankees shortstop and future Hall of Famer Derek Jeter.

Kevin Wandra: Playing for a professional team

Kevin Wandra's picture

If you had the athletic ability and talent to play for a professional team for one year, what team would you join and what position would you play?

Kevin Wandra: Your favorite piece of sports memorabilia

Kevin Wandra's picture

I think that just about every sports fan owns at least one piece of sports memorabilia they absolutely cherish. I met Joe Namath in Atlanta at the NFL Experience in 2000, and he autographed a Jets mini helmet for me. It's by far my favorite piece of sports memorabilia.

Kevin Wandra: You play Braves GM

Kevin Wandra's picture

If the Atlanta Braves could acquire one current player from any team without giving up anything, who would be the best pick for them?

Kevin Wandra: Is Nascar a sport?

Kevin Wandra's picture

I'll get straight to my question of the day: Is Nascar a sport?

Kevin Wandra: If found guilty of dogfighting, should Michael Vick be suspended?

Kevin Wandra's picture

If Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick is found guilty of involvement in dogfighting -- I would be surprised if he isn't -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will likely suspend Vick.
