I'll get straight to my question of the day: Is Nascar a sport?

NASCAR is a shadow of it's former self. Ain't nothin' about those "stock." (H)ell even the headlites are decals.

Hold it left w/ the help of power sterring. Fireball Roberts would be dumbfounded.

Just like bowling or golf is a sport. The only difference is the car drivers can't drink while they are participating in their "sport".

Somewhat like professional wrestling is a sport, I think. It is primarily a place for the auto owners to march out their gladiators with heavy feet and roar along. It is primrily a place for the die-hard fans to get drunk, throw beer bottles or whatever they have, and on the way out of the parking lot, roar their engines, holler out thu winder and throw beer bottles. Oncest on thu road to act impatient and cut people off.
It is a game not a sport. They take turns selling tickets. The rules are ridiculous, like where one buddy can help another by spinning someone out, sose he kin win.
It provides rednecks and other failures the ability to talk loaud en bragg later.

NASCAR drivers aren't known for beating their wives/girlfriends, dog fighting, flipping off the fans, or doing drugs. So I guess it's much like the wise one Mr Dollar stated. It can't be a sport.

While it's true that NASCAR was started by bootleggers and is the sport of the common man, not so much the affluent, it's a very ignorant stance to compare it to professional wrestling. I guess you think what they do is easy ? I have a little knowledge in what it takes or at least what it used to take to be a NASCAR driver. You see my Dad was one of the pioneers of NASCAR and is an inductee of the Georgia Automobile Racing Hall of Fame !

I wouldn't want to judge individuals associated with NASCAR that I don't know, but I knew Richard Petty and he was a drunken bum as a youth. I also saw his Grandfather race on dirt tracks once. That's where a liquor bottle zinged by my head and broke on the fence, and we nearly got killed driving home.
As to it being hard or easy, that isn't important. This new idiocy of fighting like gladiators in a cage isn't easy.
I just don't like it. I suppose it is redneck opiate, so ok.

Wow! What a night! And we thought you didn't know how to party and have a good time. Reminds me of my younger days! Smiling Of course in your younger days driving while intoxicated was legal.

Mr Dollar,

What sport or car a person likes or doesn't is purely a personal choice. But trying to degrade someone for their choice is classless.
