Playing for a professional team

If you had the athletic ability and talent to play for a professional team for one year, what team would you join and what position would you play?

I would play quarterback for the team I adore, the New York Jets, and lead them to a Super Bowl victory.

Though I grew up hurling pitches like former Red Sox ace Roger Clemens at the garage door at my house, I think I would prefer to be starting shortstop for the Red Sox - turning double plays with Pedroia and hitting behind Youk and ahead of Papi.

If the unassailable, unoffical Sox website has documented that Mike Hampton would have produced more offense than Julio Lugo, then I say let's give Mike Boylan a shot at shortstop. Sorry, you take over the #9 hole as Pedroia is now leadoff.

Kevin Wandra and the Jets....Wouldn't you want to be Herman Edwards and re-live, Deja Vu style, the recovery of Joe Piscarcik's fumble on the Giants 3-yard line with seconds to go?

I am no different than anyone else dreaming of being a Major League baseball player. The only vivid actual dream I had was of being a starting second baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals at the old Busch Stadium. This speaks of some very deeply disturbed mental illness I cannot explain.

BTW---- were you imitating the Roger Clemens before or after steroids? (See Fox Sports article yesterday comparing Clemens to Bonds and defending Dan Duquette).

I'll pass on reliving the greatest moment of Herman Edwards' playing career. Edwards sold out on the Jets; he was eying the Chiefs job while he still was coaching the Jets. (He was close friends with Chiefs general manager Carl Peterson long before taking the Jets job.)

As much as I like current Jets quarterback Chad Pennington, I would swipe his job in a heartbeat and show off my immense skills that would make Peyton Manning jealous.
