Professional wrestling fans in Fayette County?

Back in the 1980s, I was a huge professional wrestling fan. Paul "Mr. Wonderful" Orndorff, the Road Warriors and Terry Gordy were some of my favorite wrestlers. I gave up on professional wrestling in the late '80s. So, is anybody in Fayette County still a professional wrestling fan?

I have never understood the draw of professional wrestling. I have also never cared for Olympic wrestling, which I don't understand.
Over forty years ago some of these rasslers used to go to schools and bring their ring and put on "matches." As an active Jaycee, we used these guys to raise money for our club and I met a few of them.
We were allowed into where they got ready for the show and we saw the fake vials of blood, fake scratches, etc., that they used while in the ring.
These guys were so bad that it was easy to see the fakery--especially when the guy that got thrown over the other's head actually helped the thrower by jumping half way!
I think they got more rehearsed in later years.
My question to you is serious: why do people like this sort of entertainment when it is obviously pre-planned as to who will "win?"
Does it appeal only to a certain group, or groups?
Kinda like soap operas?

It appears to all be soap oprah drama, with the same cliff hangers, people coming back from beyond the grave, on-again-off-again relationships etc. Pure Entertainment which millions around the world watch and apparently PAY big money to watch. If I remember there are (or were years ago) several professional wrestlers that lived in Fayette County. Mr. Wonderful (who I belived owed the bowling alley at one time), The Iron Shiek etc, are they still around here? Many of my family and friends were suprised to hear that such a "well known" professional lived right next door to them.

I think Orndorff moved from Fayetteville. For a long time, his name/address was actually in the phone book. The Mexican Iron Shiek still lives in Fayetteville and still gets into trouble:)

Others besides Benoit who lived in the PTC area are Dave "Fit" Finlay, Booker T, Ted Petty(deceased)of Public Enemy, Mr. Wrestling II Johnny Walker(now in Hawaii), William/Steven Regal. The producer of WCW television Bill Mitchell also lived in PTC.

With the demise of Atlanta-based WCW, a lot of wrestlers moved away from the Fayette County area as their homebase ceased to exist. The ones I named above were all still around Fayette after WCW closed its doors and was bought by WWF.
