What should the Falcons do with Michael Vick?

Kevin Wandra's picture

In case you were living on another planet, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was recently indicted on federal charges related to dogfighting. Vick is an immensely talented player, but the Falcons must be getting fed up with his off-field actions. What should the Falcons do? Release him (the cap hit would be exorbitant)? Attempt to trade him?

If things don't work out for Vick, Falcons fans, you're going to have to watch Joey Harrington take over the reigns as Atlanta's starting quarterback. How comfortable would you be with Harrington, who was mediocre in Detroit and Miami, as the Falcons' starting quarterback?

How about the Falcons sending Vick to do social work at the Humane Society? Making a significant donation to the animal shelters could be a good PR move. Would Vick consider joinig the WWF?

I tried to read the charges against Vick several times, but would stop cause they got so ugly. I think anyone who would do those kinds of things to a helpless animal is an animal themselves. I don't go to pro football games cause so many of the players are nothing more than thugs that can run fast. He is just one of many...look at OJ. I wouldn't pay a dime to help make these things rich.

My children and two of my grandchildren were at the Falcon game when Vick saluted the fans. I believe he's saluted the fans again.

Falcon owners should have kept Matt Schaub and got rid of Vick.

All of us are Falcon fans. My children have season tickets. We're fed up with Michael Vick's thug mentality. Get rid of him.

Harrington could turn out to be the best quarterback the Falcons ever had. He can stay in the pocket and he can throw.

There are other guys on the team who can run for 1,000 yards.

However, there is an NFL rumor that Harrington is involved in cock fighting Smiling

It seems every few months someone is asking and we keep saying - get rid of the thug.

What is the hold up?

I wish that animal abuse was a capital crime. That is one I would petition the warden to witness. The testimony of these witnesses on the news last night was overwhelming.

I hope he rots in jail, better yet I hope the inmates teach him lesson after lesson if he is found guilty. Hopefully he will end up as an "unfortunate casulty" of prison life. The good thing is he is not being tried in GA we are way too easy on people who abuse animals.

Cut him totally when the cap hit won't cripple the team. After June 1 next year. Cutting him now would be a disaster for 5 years for the team regards to the salary cap.

Submitted by dollaradayandfound on Thu, 07/19/2007 - 1:41pm.

Why in the name of Zeus and Athena does it matter about salary caps, backups, ticket sales, no admission of any guilt (lying), would the Falcons, or fans for that matter, want such a creature on our football team?
He is the very worst, with exception of a few basketball players, that young kids could aspire to be like.
Any citizen having done all the strange things he has over the years would already be out of athletics and selling insurance in SW Atlanta.

for sure. I can tell by your comments that you don't get it. It would cost less and be better for the Falcons in the long run not to cut him before June 1, 08.

Not defending what he's accused of at all.

Who cares who the back up is? Where have morals gone? People worry more about the teams record more than they do about morals now days. If he is guilty, then get rid of him for good.

Because he looks like a duck, he walks like a duck, and he sounds like a duck! All of the time.
Trials are one thing for guilt, playing football another.

Personally, I would have cut him loose after he gave the fans the finger. If he walked like a duck we wouldn't be paying him 130 mil.

“America’s Toughest Sheriff," Joe Arpaio (Maricopa County, AZ) has over 10,000 inmates in his jail system. In August, 1993, he started the nation’s largest Tent City for convicted inmates. Two thousand convicted men and women serve their sentences in a canvas incarceration compound.

Of equal success and notoriety are his chain gangs, which contribute thousands of dollars of free labor to the community. The male chain gang, and the world’s first-ever female and juvenile chain gangs, clean streets, paint over graffiti, and bury the indigent in the county cemetery.

Also impressive are the Sheriff’s get tough policies. For example, he banned smoking, coffee, movies, pornographic magazines, and unrestricted TV in all jails. He has the cheapest meals in the U.S. too. The average meal costs about 15 cents, and inmates are fed only twice daily, to cut the labor costs of meal delivery. He even stopped serving them salt and pepper to save tax payers $20,000 a year.

Another program Arpaio is very well known for is the pink under shorts he makes all inmates wear. Years ago, when the Sheriff learned that inmates were stealing jailhouse white boxers, Arpaio had all inmate underwear dyed pink for better inventory control. The same is true for the Sheriff’s handcuffs. When they started disappearing, he ordered pink handcuffs as a replacement. And later, when the Sheriff learned the calming, psychological effects of the color pinksheets, towels, socks — everything inmates wear, except for the old-fashioned black and white striped uniform, were dyed pink.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio's no-kill animal shelter, MASH, was created to house and care for animals that have been abused or neglected by their caretakers and rescued by the Animal Cruelty Investigative Unit. The purpose of the shelter is to provide a safe, healthy and healing shelter for these tragic animals, who must necessarily await the outcome of their owners' cruelty cases in court. Hopefully, their ultimate outcome will be adoption into loving, permanent homes.

Remember:

Animal cruelty is a violent crime and should be taken seriously.

Animal abuse often occurs in homes where domestic violence, child abuse, and/or elder abuse are present.

FBI studies confirm that several murderers, including Jeffrey Dahmer, David Berkowitz (the Son of Sam) and Albert DeSalvo (the Boston Strangler), all tortured and mutilated animals as children.

MCSO Animal Cruelty Investigators depend on the public to spot and report animal abuse.

I wonder about the recidivism rate here? Puzzled

We are all familiar with this weird sheriff. He has been on every TV show that exists and in the news dozens of times. Didn't need your copying and pasting!
I think it is show-boating, myself. Vote getting!
Child's play with the oink bloomers, etc. It is not funny.
Two meals a day isn't healthy for people used to three or more. At least snacks should be furnished once. This is not coddling criminals, it is treating humans like humans who need punishment but away from society, not tortured!
What do you say that we put a pink uniform on a certain football quarterback, along with pink panties that show above his pants that are dropped down 12-18 inches below his crotch?
Then ticket sales and TV time would sell for much, much more.

More than I care to remember. I ate in them (if we were lucky), showered in them and slept in them all courtesy of Uncle Sam and the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Combat Communications Group. I did it for Brave Shield, Bold Eagle, Gallant Eagle, Jack Frost, Red Flag, Eagle Claw, Desert Storm and too many other TDYs to remember without pulling some old orders. If it was good enough for me, it is darn sure good enough for the criminals.

Did you ever stay in a pup tent with another guy in the rain? Or sleep in the jungle sitting up in the rain? With a rifle in your hand and being shot at and dodging poisoned spiked traps?
I really get a kick out of all those fancy names of battles where nothing is accomplished. I don't remember one name such as that when I attended the military for four years! Maybe they didn't tell us.
Sympathy alone, or braggadocio for soldiers doesn't make what our administration has done in the last six years any better. Just take better care of the families of the dead and the 30,000 or so wounded!
No cover-ups please.

I can only assume you don't have any idea what Combat Controllers do, where they do it, when they do it, or how they do it.

I have indeed slept in a tent, and a dugout, and in a tree. I have also gone three or more days with no sleep on multiple occasions while being 'shot at'.

I was not in Vietnam if that is what you are asking. Nor was Vietnam the be all end all of conflicts. If it is Jungle warfare and conditions you are asking about I was in the Philippines twice. The first time for advanced survival school training and the second time helping track down anti-government militia. Is that enough jungle for you?

One of those little 'fancy names of battles where nothing is accomplished' was called 'Desert Storm' where we kicked a guy named Saddam Hussein and the third largest army in the world out of a country called Kuwait. Another of those was when your buddy Jimmy Carter sent us in to Iran to attempt a hostage rescue. That "fancy names of battles where nothing is accomplished" cost the lives of five fellow airman and three marines.

You know dollar, I had begun responding to you again and it has led to nothing but trouble. Today, you crossed the line. The same one Gump crossed. We are through talking. Count on it.

I've heard my grandparents talk about chain gangs. I wonder if Sheriff Arpaio is the only one who does that any more?

I especially like the unrestricted TV rule. Why should jail be so comfortable?
