Bob and Harvey Weinstein apparently weren’t pleased, but they should have seen it coming. Who was going to go to a three hour extravaganza of a gooey zombie movie and a talkie movie about a homicidal stuntman and his killer car over Easter weekend? Apparently me and a million other people and that’s it. ‘Firehouse Dog’: Comedy on fireShane (Josh Hutcherson) is a boy whose dad (played by Bruce Greenwood) is the fire captain for Engine 55. His intention was to be a painter, for which he studied at Northwestern University where he met pal Zach Braff (television star of “Scrubs” and writer/director/star of the film “Garden State”). He spent six years as a screenwriter and a painter in New York City before coming to the realization that he was born to sing. Chatting with the creators of ‘Meet the Robinsons’Recently I had the chance to sit down with three of the people involved with the new 3D Disney film “Meet the Robinsons.” Director Steve Anderson, 3D Supervisor Kyle Odermatt, and actress Angela Bassett, who voices orphanage director Mildred, were in town to talk about the movie and why it marks the beginning of a new era of film. Audiences will definitely want to ‘Meet the Robinsons’Most adults remember the good old days of “3-D” films viewed through green and red plastic eye lenses framed by cardboard. Watching the film was more work than it was worth, and you were left with a headache as a parting gift. ‘Blades of Glory’: Gloriously sillyWill Ferrell and Jon Heder are “love them or hate them” kind of comedians. You either loved “Anchorman” and “Napoleon Dynamite” or you thought they were the stupidest movies you have ever seen. If you enjoyed those films, and I really liked both of them, “Blades of Glory” is right up your alley. Ferrell plays Chazz Michael Michaels, a renegade skating lothario with long hair and a penchant for loose women and the bottle. He is a rock star in the skating world and his rival is Heder’s character, Jimmy MacElroy, a pixie-ish looking skater, stuck in a form of adolescence and in love with the grace of his sport. When the two skaters tie for a gold medal and end up fighting on the winner’s platform, they are banned from skating. They find a way to return to skating three and a half years later when they stumble upon a loophole that would allow them to enter the pairs category. ‘TMNT’: Turtully coolFor those of you who are clueless, TMNT stands for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which was a TV show in the 1980s and ‘90s. I had a ‘Premonition’ this movie would be badHave you ever seen a movie that had all the ingredients to be great, and then...wasn’t? That’s basically how “Premonition,” the new film starring Sandra Bullock and Julian McMahon, plays out. “Premonition” is an interesting idea married with a solid cast that goes completely awry when executed.
