‘TMNT’: Turtully cool

For those of you who are clueless, TMNT stands for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which was a TV show in the 1980s and ‘90s. Basically, it’s about four turtles that wandered away from their mother, accidentally fell into a vat of toxic waste, and were taught kung fu by Splinter, a sewer rat they call sensei.

Now it’s 2007 and those turtles are back in a totally new computer animated movie. The four brothers have all split up like the Scooby Doo gang did. Now they must get back together to save the world from 13 evil statue monsters. Splinter has forbidden the turtles to fight until they can unite as one.

And, of course they live in New York City. Why don’t they ever live in Miami, Florida or Omaha, Nebraska?

STATS:

• Leonardo is the leader of the turtles. He has gone off to South America to become a better leader of his team. He is afraid that Raphael will not like him since he’s been there for a year. He wears blue, my favorite color.

• Raphael is a bit of a mean turtle. He is low tempered and a good weapons expert. He’s the toughie of the team. If you get on his nerves you’d better get ready to say goodbye. The reason he is mean is because he misses Leonardo so much. He has turned his grief into anger and is using it towards others. He sports the red bandana.

• Michelangelo, or Mikey for short, wears the orange bandana. This turtle has become a bit of a jokester-his job is being a crazy birthday clown for kid’s birthday parties. The funny thing is he has nightmares about the parties. Best quote: “You look like your mom, dude.” He’s also a wannabe Tony Hawk skater.

• Donatello wears the purple bandana. He likes to lay around the house all day watching talk shows and reading gossip magazines. He’s a lazy shell, a real couch potato.

The questions: Will the turtles save the world? Will Raphael learn to like his leader? Will Mikey go insane? Will my dad fall asleep in this movie? (The answer to this one is no! For the rest of the answers-see the movie!).

Rated PG for action sequences and mild language.

Come on, it’s about turtles…
