City looking for Memorial Day parade participants

Mark your calendars for Monday, May 26th, when the City of Senoia and the Downtown Development Authority will hold its third annual Memorial Day parade and festivities for the whole family. Entertainment, food, children's activities, and shopping from 10:00 to 5:00 will be followed by a fireworks display after dark. The U.S. Army Ground Forces Band will march in the 2:00 p.m. parade and present a concert afterwards. Emcees will be "The Car Guys," Scott Sargeant and Charlie Filkins.

County imposes tower moratorium

Companies that might want to construct wireless communications towers in Coweta County will have to wait a while before submitting an application to do so. County commissioners on Tuesday approved a 90-day moratorium on issuing permits and established an $8,500 application fee.

Senoia’s library has a new location

Senoia’s long-delayed new library will be located in the city’s newest park on Pylant Street.

After an executive session Monday night, the City Council announced plans to purchase a one-acre tract next to the park for $55,000. City Administrator Richard Ferry said the purchase will be paid by $40,000 in cash and $15,000 in a line of credit.

Public hearing set for April 10 for new development near Sharpsburg

The Coweta County Commission will hold a public hearing April 10 on a rezoning request to establish a 694 single-family home development east of Sharpsburg.

County’s revenues show an increase

It was a quick, painless fix to the 2007 Coweta County budget approved by commissioners March 4.

Addressing the call for a budget amendment, Assistant Finance Director Kelly Mickle in a Feb. 28 memo said actual revenues in the $52.22 million budget were approximately $5 million greater than the original budget and $3 million greater than the amended budget. Actual expenditures, she said, were approximately $900,000 less than the original budget and $3 million less than the amended budget.

A Coweta county resident who nearly caused the bankruptcy of one Senoia’s leading citizens was sentenced Thursday for transporting hazardous waste material.

County involved in federal lawsuit

Several members of Coweta County Commission may soon find themselves testifying under oath in federal court. Filed Feb. 22 in U.S. District Court, District 4 Commissioner Leigh Schlumper demanded a jury trail in her complaint that Commission Chairman Tim Higgins, Commissioner Tim Lassetter and Coweta County are guilty of gender discrimination, libel and slander.

The first of several hurdles involved in establishing Pathway Communities Twelve Parks mixed-use master planned community in east Coweta County was jumped Feb. 19 as county commissioners approved a request by Coweta Water and Sewer Authority to provide those services to the proposed development near Sharpsburg.

United Way in Fayette County gearing up for Women’s Legacy Shoebox Project 2008

United Way Women’s Legacy is gearing up for the third annual Shoebox Project. Each year, individuals and companies throughout the metro area donate shoeboxes filled with toiletries to be given to homeless women and children in our community on Valentine’s Day. Last year more than 10,000 shoeboxes were collected and distributed to 48 homeless shelters across the 13-county region United Way serves. United Way in Coweta & Fayette Counties collected 325 shoeboxes from Coweta and Fayette last year. These shoeboxes were distributed to local women and children’s shelters, in addition to Coweta County DFACS.
