County continues to study chairmanship issueThu, 02/21/2008 - 3:33pm
By: Ben Nelms
The path that might lead to re-engineering Coweta County government and electing a countywide commission chairman took another incremental step Feb. 19 as commissioners approved local Georgia Power representative Jan Alligood to serve on the committee that will study the issues. The appointment followed a Feb. 5 decision to form the committee that will also be comprised of Chairman Tim Higgins, District 4 Commissioner Leigh Schlumper, County Administrator Theron Gay and former Commissioner Robert Wood. Higgins Feb. 5 said the study issues were geared toward Coweta’s future. “Over the next 20 years, our structure may need to change. We have two senior managers set to retire in two to six years and we need succession planning,” he said. Some on the commission believed the current governmental structure is sufficient for the future. “It’s important that each district get represented each year. I think what we have works well and we shouldn’t change,” District 1 Commissioner Paul Poole said Feb. 5. “The staff does a good job. They are aware that they need to train people and they are addressing that.” Committee meeting dates have not been announced. login to post comments |
