Companies that might want to construct wireless communications towers in Coweta County will have to wait a while before submitting an application to do so. County commissioners on Tuesday approved a 90-day moratorium on issuing permits and established an $8,500 application fee.

Though no applications are pending, county attorney Jerry Ann Conner said the 90-day period would give the county sufficient time to accomplish several objectives. Those include a review of the wireless tower ordinance and instituting any changes that might be needed, the development of procedures governing the filing and analyzing an application and for granting a permit to construct, modify or use wireless facilities.

Commissioners agreed with the recommendation with little discussion. The expiration date of the moratorium is May 2.
