Parents can apply for slots at Coweta County School System Pre-Kindergarten classes from March 10 through 21 at their child’s district elementary schools.

The March 10-21 application will be for limited 2008-09 class slots in the school system’s four-year-old Pre-Kindergarten classes. State Pre-K classes are also offered at private day care centers around Coweta County, which register students separately.

Elementary schools will accept applications for eligible students (who must be four years old on or before September 1, 2008) on Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the period. To accommodate parent’s work schedules, all schools will also hold an expanded registration day from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on March 18.

Parents who sign up for four-year-old Pre-Kindergarten classes will be eligible for limited class slots. In case there are more than 20 applicants, the school will hold a lottery drawing to determine placement in the class. Application for the classes will end at noon on March 21; lottery drawings will be held at 1 p.m. that day.

Parents whose children are selected by lottery will be able to formally register their child in the following weeks at the school system’s Central Office registration center on Werz Industrial Drive in Newnan. The names of students who are not selected will be placed on a waiting list, and will be eligible if selected parents do not register their children for the class.

Pre-K students in the Northside, Ruth Hill, Elm Street, Atkinson, and Jefferson Parkway districts will register at Jefferson Parkway Elementary School. All other students should be registered at their district schools (call 770-254-2820 to inquire about about school districts).

The application for Pre-K slots and registration for selected students are being held separately because the school system has begun registering all new students at the Werz Drive central office.

To apply, parents must visit their districted school and complete a purple Coweta County Pre-K registration form for each child. The parent will cut off the registration portion of the form and place it in the lottery box each site will have.

On March 21, at 1 p.m., the principal will draw names from the box. Parents of the children whose names have been drawn to fill the class will be required to come to Central Registration to complete the remaining registration procedures.

More information about registration times and procedures can be found at district schools, or by calling the registration office at 770-254-5551. Information about new student registration and directions to the Central Office can also be found at www.cowetaschools.net/ registration.

After School Programs are also available at Coweta County schools, and parents can inquire about fees and times at their district school.
